Great Overnight Stay... amazing steak!

We stopped off in Alnwick on our way further south and very happy we chose The Plough. The bar and lounge areas are cheery, really tastefully decorated and lit. We were welcomed with smiles and shown up to our room (3), which is large and again really nicely decorated. The bathroom is also huge with a great bath and shower.
We went down to the restaurant for dinner...again, a lovely room which was really comfortable. The servers were local girls and really charming and friendly. We ordered food and my wife, who eats a lot of prawn cocktail, said it was one of the best she has ever had. My terrine was also very lovely.
We then received the huge sharing steak from the specials board and it was fabulous... perfectly cooked and really tasty.
Desserts were also just as good...the Eton Mess, another firm favourite, was superb as was the cheesecake
A great night sleep in the super comfy bed and up to breakfast, which was plentiful and really well cooked.
If going back to Alnwick for an extended stay we'll definitely stay in the Plough again and recommend anyone else does the same.

We recently held a party here and it was fabulous, staff were very welcoming and helpful, Claire could not have been anymore helpful from the initial booking until the actual evening, Michael was a great help in setting the room up in the morning and all staff in general were great. The room is beautiful and this was mentioned on many occasions by the party guests. Thank you so so much, we would highly recommend for any party/event.

nice sized car park at rear accessed by two different entrancies.we have a cmax and access was not a problem but some degree of care required.friendly staff greeted us on arrival.the room was clean and comfortable with some nice touches.i did think it was overpriced as the room was very small.nicely cooked breakfast.on main sreet in town so easy access to town and castle are both in walking distance.
Okay, but variable

I like The Plough. It is quite comfortable, and I like the back room. However, I enjoy a quiet time, and there are often noisy groups here. I don't know why people in a small group have to shout at each other or guffaw loudly at the vaguest hint of humour. The Plough seems happy with this. I guess loud groups spend more money than I. Actually, that is true, because I visit a lot less frequently these dwys
Homely

This is a quaint hotel on a main street with an archway at the side that has plenty of room to get your car through to access the car park.
We literally left this morning; i could of stayed longer!
Its beautifully decorated and the features make it feel like home.
Plenty of bedding, pillows, cushions and towels.
Free waters, crisps, biscuits and a Nespresso machine are awaiting you in your room; which were very welcoming after our late arrival.
There was a young guy at the bar who showed us to our room he was very welcoming, polite and down to earth and so was the lady who sorted us breakfast.
For breakfast as we were in room one we were right across from the dining room so nice and handy. We got greeted with a warm welcome, a hot drink and toast while we chose which hot breakfast we wanted. We picked the northumberland full breakfast which was good quality and came out quick and the lady even gave us more toast. Tea comes in a pot, there are jams on your table and a large table to help yourself to juices, cereals, fruit and pastries.
The bedroom was very warm, the windows didn't open and the view was a wall but it didn't bother me that much as we only stayed one night anyway.
Anyone that doesn't like solid hand soap take some liquid soap with you as its a block of soap they provide.
The only thing i could pick at was some bits of the room such as side tables were dusty and i have allergies so touching a tv remote full of dust wasn't great.
Also for some reason the shower and toilet are very loud but i don't know why that was haha.
Shame we missed the dining as the food looks great!
Would definitely go again!!!
Thank You!!!
