What People are saying

Happy to take my money but not offer the amenities they advertise!

Kate1802014 on 08/11/2017 19:31

I stayed here in the last week of October which was the last week the hotel was open and quite frankly it should not have still allowed guests. The hotel was clearly waiting to close and we were an inconvenience to staff.
The hotel was advertised as having an indoor and outdoor pool but it was in a disgusting state. There was so much dirt, moss growing round the sides on the tiles, leaves etc all in the pool, making it unusable. It did not appear to have been maintained for several weeks.
During our stay the weather was lovely but half way through the week the sunbeds were removed from the terrace. I questioned this with reception to be told 'we are closing so they are finished!' We were told that we could use the sunbeds at the beach but they had locked the gate which provided direct access from the hotel to the beach.
The hotel needs a lot of work done to it, our room had a hole in the bathroom and mould growing on the ceiling, also railings in the lift were loose, carpets stained etc.
Dinner is a buffet service but it was a case of fighting for a table every night with the majority of tables reserved for tour groups. The attitude of the staff was poor, they appeared to not care at all and it was a real chore for them to be there.
From the hotel you can take a bus to Budva town in one direction or Sveti Stefan in the other. Both take about 10 mins and cost €1. It is possible to walk to Budva along the promenade but it takes about one hour 15 mins. Most places in Montenegro are accessible from the bus station in Budva, Kotor and Cetinje are about 45 mins away and Kotor especially is a must see.
I would not stay at this hotel again as they were happy to take my money but not offer all of the amenities and the attitude of staff was not very welcoming.
I am sure it may have been a different experience in the height of the season compared to the last week but I expect to receive the same level of service when ever I stay!

Lovely views at present

The hotel has clean and tidy rooms. The rooms have Wi-fi and a hairdryer. There is no tea and Coffee making facilities. The buffet is very good. There is a huge range of food to choose from. I was with a group, some people complained of having no hot water in their rooms. Also being a large hotel there can be long queues at the coffee machine. The hotel could do with some TLC. i.e handrails were loose in the lifts, door locks didn't work properly. Toilet flushes didn't stop.

The swimming pool was very cold. At present you get a good view of the bay but a new hotel is being built in front of it , this will block this view.

Hotel with a view!

Staff at reception could have been more hospitable and friendly. WiFi not great. Breakfast was mediocre and coffee not to our taste at all. Most probably Nescafé which was a shame given coffee in the Balkans is often local and good.

Great Hotel...when you finally get to it!

I was initially hesitant about booking this holiday because we did not fly directly into Montenegro but flew into Dubrovnik instead. However, the Thomsons travel agent reassured me by informing me we would be getting a boat from Dubrovnik to Montenegro & the transfer time would be approx. 1 and half hours. Unfortunately this was far from the truth which I will soon explain.
This was undoubtedly our worst start to a holiday ever. The entire wrong luggage had been put onto the plane so although all the passengers had already boarded they had to take the entire luggage off the plane & replace it with the correct luggage which delayed the departure by 45 minutes. Then when we arrived at Dubrovnik we discovered two of our transfer party had lost their luggage (the fault of the Thomsons rep at Birmingham who had not labelled their luggage correctly) & as a consequence we had to wait over an hour on a hot mini bus whilst they tried to locate it.
We then had to endure a 2 hour wait in a queue at border control to get into Montenegro before travelling another 1.5 hours to get a FERRY, not a boat as my travel agent had claimed & then just under an hour to reach our hotels. Basically, we lost a whole afternoon of our first day travelling.
As for the hotel, in all honesty we chose it because it was the most reasonably priced 4 star hotel we could find from the small number available from Thomsons & it was located in Becici where we were told they had sandy beaches as opposed to pebble/shingle beaches in Budva.
However, we were very pleased with our choice. The hotel was clean, modern and stylish with a bit of a conference centre look about it. Our twin room was certainly not luxurious and possibly needed a makeover but was spacious with excellent air conditioning, a free safe and a modern bathroom. As someone who has back problems it took me a couple of days to get used to the bed which offered little support.
Our sea view was impeded slightly by a large Crain between the hotel & the beach (we were aware of this before we booked the room) but it still offered good views of the sea and the town & it was still very pleasant to hear the sound of the sea waves at night.
There are just under 100 steps from the hotel to the beach, not as bad as it sounds because the steps are short & staggered & you also cross a bridge along the way, but because of this, the hotel would not be suitable for the disabled or people with walking difficulties. When you cross the narrow footpath (or “promenade” as my travel agent called it), at the bottom of the steps, the beach is very sandy. Unfortunately the area of the beach exclusively for hotel guests is further down & a bit more shingle than sand. However, this does guarantee you do not have to pay for a sun bed. I am not sure how many people who used this area of the beach were hotel guests because it did not seem to be monitored but the few times we went to the beach we never found any difficulty finding a sunbed.
The “promenade” has a number of bars, restaurants & shops along it and the first night we were there, there was a band playing on a stage in the centre of the town.
Whether it is because Montenegro attracts a lot of Russians I am not sure but we found a lot of the other tourists to be very surly and quite bad mannered. However, this did not affect our stay & most of the hotel staff, especially the waiters & waitresses, was very friendly and attentive.
From the hotel it is about 10 minutes one way to Budva by taxi or bus and 10 minutes the other way to Sventi Stefan Island, both worth visiting. You can also walk to Budva but we were told it would take approximately an hour to get to Old Budva town so for the sake of about 6 euros we got a taxi (It is only 1 euro by bus). Just make sure you get one of the recognised taxi firms (the tour rep or hotel should be able to provide a list) because private taxis can cost significantly more – possibly 10, 20 or even 50 euros for the same journey!
The hotel restaurant was a buffet service for breakfast and in the evening. The quality of the food overall was excellent with plentiful choice. Some of the dishes were repeated over the week but I did not mind this. The halibut and steak were exceptionally good.
As we have found in many hotels we have stayed at, the evening entertainment was disappointing and limited to a man or woman singing &/or playing pale imitations of popular songs. We were not too bothered by this and of course you had the option to go into Becici or Budva if you wished where there was much more choice of entertainment.
We went on a number of excursions with Thompsons, some better than others, but found that similar local excursions were considerably cheaper, sometimes by a third. We particularly enjoyed the Buka Bay Cruise including Kotor and Our Lady of the Rocks but found Skadar Lake to be a bit uninspiring and better appreciated from above than actually on it and the Wild Beauty of Montenegro Tour involved a lot of travelling – 4 and half hours to return to our hotel!
We would definitely recommend the Queen of Montenegro and would certainly return to this hotel & to Becici again. As much as I liked Budva Old Town, Becici has more of a small town holiday feel about it than other popular towns we visited such as Budva and Kotor although I expect those places have far more nightlife on offer. It should also be mentioned though that Kotor suffers greatly from Cruise ship party’s that make it overly crowded at times...one of the pitfalls of modern tourism!

Great hotel in an ideal location. Absolutely first class.

The hotel is situated on the nearby Becici beach which has a long promenade stretching almost to the ancient town of Budva which is also accessible by bus for about one euro. The food is absolutely first class.and meals can be taken in the restaurant or on the terrace. There is a large quieter beach if you follow the promenade south through a tunnel to the southern beach.
