Food intolerances not taken seriously

As soon as I came in, I asked that the waiter let me know which foods I should consider, I am not celiac but I am in pain if I eat gluten.
But then the waitress somehow ignored my request for a gluten free meal when I placed the order so my salad had croutons which were not gluten free, it was good I checked again before eating. The manager took my meal off the bill but I was really annoyed when he said that they had thought I wasn't that allergic! Please take intolerances seriously. Very disappointed and shocked with Red Lion.

Wow!

I am a VERY frequent customer in the time well spent pubs, particularly at the red lion. Usually just for drinking.... however, what a change!! I have to say over the weekend I had the BEST lunch I've had in a TWS pub in a very long time. Excellent service, excellent food... especially the triple fried chips (to die for!!) we couldn't fault the meal if we tried. Yum!!! Thanks Toby!! 😍

Called in for lunch time meal whilst in the area, have eaten here on a few occasions this year. We were early so the first through the door. We both had the the steak pie in my case the last of the steak and mushroom. Both our pies were excellent and good portions too. Shortly after we arrived a group of ramblers came in and Trish who was on duty very quickly put several tables together and immediately asked if they wished separate bills which they did, no problem she would give them each a separate number to ensure individual bills could be produced. I was impressed with her 'can do' attitude as some places make it seem like separate bills is such a trial.
Whenever we have visited the Red Lion we have always had a good experience and found bar staff to be helpful and friendly. We look forward to our next visit.
Cobwebs everywhere and very poor value for money

The free continental breakfast is on a tray in your room. As we had only one chair we had to take it in turns. Milk and orange supplied in jam jars.
There were cobwebs everywhere in the room, bathroom and entrance hall.
We arrived after dark and were just given our keys and left to find the room. Walked all round the building using phone torch to avoid the steps and hazards.
Bedroom ceiling light hanging off. Bathroom light intermittent. Wifi weak.
For £70 per night I would have expected cleanliness at the very least, and access to a decent breakfast.
Extremely Dissappointing Stay

I was temporarily based in Dorking for work and had a pleasant evening in the Red Lion Pub. Staff were friendly and polite and the food was very nice. I thought it a good idea to stay in the B&B which is a small 2 storey building at the rear of the pub.
The breakfast was ready prepared and put in the fridge in a corner of the bedroom. It was a plate of curled up pieces of cold meat and cheese, cereal and milk and orange in old used jam jars. The orange juice had mould on the inside of the lid and a fly in the juice ! On the second day my breakfast was placed on a tray on the floor outside my room. I mentioned this to the management and they said they couldn't get into my bedroom because I had locked it......??? Incredulous!
The bathroom had a shower over the bath but the tiles were grubby and there was a tide mark around the bath. Although I had put used towels in the bath in the morning for changing, in the evening they were still there.
Under the bed were broken biscuits and a pair of someones old used socks.
The bar/waiting staff book you into the B&B and so there is a wait until they have finished serving customers but they are very pleasant and polite.
Very surprisingly this is possibly the worst B&B I've experienced. It is a shame.
