First impressions are of an old hotel in need of some serious cash spending on it and it really does, (starting with the windows). However, this places oozes the style and panache of a time long gone. Wide corridors and staircase, lovely relaxing lounge, great ballroom (breakfast served here), interesting pictures on the walls. Our room was not too big, certainly dated, the bathroom needed an upgrade and the bed was quite small but the room was clean and warm with tea and coffee along with bottled water supplied. The staff fitted in quite nicely, all were pleasant and friendly and yes with one relaxed speed. Breakfast was certainly adequate, but the highlight was the evening meals in the Turf Bar, these were as good as I/we have ever had, they seem to have been blessed with a top chef, the service again was in that relaxed unhurried style but it proved effective. We would stay again hopefully after it had had an upgrade but whilst still retaining its character.

This hotel definitely speaks of better days, which is a shame as it is a really nice hotel, it is just stuck in a bygone era and it is a faded shadow of itself.
The staff are nice but not the fastest and the rooms are a good size, the en-suite bathroom was huge and we had like a hall into the bedroom, we overlooked the croquet lawn.
Breakfast was included which was a full English, which was nice as most places do continental now
To eat dinner in the hotel you have to eat in the Turf bar.
An old fashioned hotel which is pleasant and I would stay again

We took our visitors to the Spa hotel today for Sunday lunch. Although I live in the area I had not tried the food for quite a while. We were very wel impressed with both the presentation and service in the restaurant. The tables were beautifully laid out . Seating was comfortable,.The food was great and the service very good with plenty of choice. We even had a great pianist playing for us. We were well impressed and will go again.
This hotel used to be very grand in my youth and yes it is ready for redecoration, but can recommend the Sunday lunch.

Needs a bit of TLC clearly nothing has been spent on it for years ..my husband remembers painting it as an apprentice and he is 55 !
Slight musty smell, but room was clean but old fashioned.
Breakfast nice in the huge room.
When paying over £120 I would have expected some bottled water in the rooms its pretty standard these days.
Shower gel was a multi pump affair which was all clogged up.
Staff lovely and friendly and the meal in the turf bar was really nice
I bet in its time this hotel was stunning like something out of Downtown Abbey

Went for lunch with friends today. The atmosphere was lovely, with a good pianist playing soft music at lunchtime. The staff were very helpful and courteous. There was a good choice for Sunday lunch and they were all generous portions.
I would definitely recommend lunch here.
