Nick and Chen were the comsumate hosts, nothing too much trouble. Top hotels could learn from many of the little extras they provide. Lovely room and exceptionally clean. The food was excellent. Looking forward to returning!

My boyfriend booked a little get away for my 25th birthday to Torquay and we had such an amazing time! We booked to stay for 4 days, 3 nights and arrived at the hotel on Friday 29th September. We were greeted with a warm welcome from the hotel owners, Nick and Chen who truly did make our stay memorable. Nothing was too much for them.
Looking throughout the hotel you could see that it had been well looked after, cleaned regularly and had a grand Victorian feel with regards to the decor and furniture. There is even a self-service bar in the lounge where you have the choice to put some money in the 'tip jar'.
We stayed in room no. 2 which was spotless and the beds were made daily. If you ran out of milk to make your tea/coffee in the morning, there is a communal fridge on the landing just for cold fresh milk. The beds are super comfy as well!
In the mornings you can smell a glorious cooked breakfast which is served between 8.30-9.30 am. You also have vegetarian options and continental with hot drinks 'on tap'. Note: lunch and breakfast is not included in your stay package.
The location itself is great as you are only a short 10 minute walk from the harbour, with several hop on and hop off bus's to catch for local attractions, such as; Paighton Zoo, Dartmouth Steam Railway and much more.
You are even a 15 minute walk away from the Kent Caverns - which we would definitely recommend.
The train station isn't a close walk so I would recommend hopping on a bus or getting a cab which cost us between £6-7 one way.
Overall, The Shirley is a great location, has welcoming staff, comfy beds, tasty food with affordable and worthwhile prices to offer.

Arrived at the hotel on monday afternoon 21st of August and received a lovely welcome from Nick the owner and manager. Nick invited us into the lounge for a nice pot of Tea which we very much appreciated after a long journey from North Cornwall, Nick was very informative about the hotel and also the restaurants in the local area as well as Torquay and Torbay for day trips out etc. We were then shown to our lovely bedroom on the second floor Room 10. The room was very spacious, Tea and Coffee making facilities with biscuits, TV with DVD player lovely shower room and also had fresh towels everyday. Breakfast was absolutely gorgeous very tasty great selection la carte menu with loads of specials, we have been to many hotels and we can say it's at the top for choice, quality and service. Breakfast was served by Nick & and wife Chan, what a lovely lady. Breakfast was a fantastic experience a great start to the day. Mal and myself went away for a lovely weeks holiday, a relaxing time and we very much had that at the Shirley hotel thank you again Nick & Chan. We hope to visit soon. Kind regards Mal and Will

Had a very comfortable stay at the Shirley recently, lovely hosts, room kept spotless and very good value. Breakfast was great and nice touches such as bottled water left in your room daily and fresh milk in a refrigerator on the landing for your tea and coffee was most appreciated. Access isn't for the infirm and the short walk to town centre is a lot easier there than back but it helps walk of the excesses so we didn't mind, so thank you Nick&Chen we will no doubt see you again.

I can't give enough praise to nick and Chen for the outstanding service they provide and it's all done with wit & charm! Nothing is too much trouble and nick even sorted out a booking error from yours truly.the room was very comfortable with numerous little touches that make the difference. Breakfast very comprehensive with healthy portions for the hungry and other options if the english full breakfast is not your cup of tea.
Cleanliness & hygiene top notch towels changed at your request.
To summarize a lovely holiday in torquay topped off by quality accommodation and hosts
