What People are saying

The views and grounds are amazing but you will pay for it.

This place was amazing, one of the nicest places I have stayed. The one thing that I did not like was that you are kind of stuck at this location if you don't have a car, so that means you eat with them for all meals. most of the time that is not a bad thing but I got board with breakfast after 1 day, and at $17 each (without coffee) for basic breakfast. When you are spending $500 a night for a room and then get changed $50 for a best western style breakfast just kind of kills it, the food quality needs to come up or the price needs to go down, either way I hated feeling like I was being taken advantaged of be cause I was stuck there. To be clear you can leave but it was a $30 round trip to town, and lunch and dinner were good but by day three it was getting hard to find things that sounded good.

Loved it!

This is my first review of a hotel, but really loved this place so taking the time to write a short review. I have stayed at some nice places with my family of five (husband, wife, 3 kids - 8, 5, 4), but this place is the best. The springs are amazing and the service top notch.

Beautiful, but be sure to ask before agreeing to anything

We This resort is beautiful. Expensive, but beautiful. And not only expensive, but they nickel and dime you for everything.
We are dinner at the really nice restaurant and we're asked if we wanted bottled water to drink. We said yes, because we've always taken precautions when traveling internationally south of the United States. The waiter and the water boy never said anything to us, but kept refilling our cups. So we drank the water. Not realizing we were being charged $6/bottle of water. Our bill included $36 in water alone. We were appalled. Bad form not informing your guests/patrons how much the water will cost before opening $36 of water without them knowing. We don't think about water, because we've never been charged for it in all our times staying other places in Costa Rica or anywhere internationally. We are so mad about this alone that we will not come back. We are bringing our kids to CR in January, but will be looking for another place to stay. Because of the water bottle fiasco I decided to just drink the tap water they brought out for the rest of the trip and I did fine. I never got sick. We also went to a grocery store in town and brought back huge jugs of water that we bought for a couple bucks. And these jugs were probably 2 gallons each.

I could have done without our waiter at the Las Ventanas (I think that's the name) name dropping all night long. I don't care who he's met, or what celebrity knows his name. I would like to know why he didn't spend time mentioning the cost of water. I love friendly waiters, but didn't feel his friendliness was sincere.

We stayed in the premier suite with two other couples and it was plenty of room for all six of us. The mattresses were a bit hard and had formed to other people's bodies so much that we could see the dips in the mattresses. All of them. The door to the outside had large gaps around it and bugs got in. We left a package of bread on the deck for a little bit and came back to ants. And then the ants came inside too to raid our garbage can. The bathroom door in our room wouldn't latch. We couldn't turn on the bathroom light without a noisy fan coming on. I prefer being given the option to turn on a fan or not. I couldn't hold a conversation with my husband if I was in the bathroom with the door open and he was 5 feet away in the bedroom. The fan was just too loud. The shower could have more pressure.

I am not a picky person. We usually stay in less expensive hotels. Two years ago we stayed in the Volcano Lodge and Suites and I don't remember having any complaints. Maybe that is why I am mentioning all the faults. I expected better when paying as much as we did.

The restaurants (other than las ventanas) have delicious food.
The view of the volcano was a bonus as we saw it every day, even though we were there during the tail end of the rainy season.
It's also very expensive, for us, but is a nice resort. The springs are beautiful. And we liked the different temperatures. My favorite was the slide. I could ride that thing all day, and laughed until my stomach was sore. The trick is to hold up the front of your pad like a toboggan and you skim across the water at the end gracefully rather than tumbling awkwardly into the pool.
The grounds were beautiful.

WORLD CLASS SERVICE

casanovathetraveler on 14/11/2017 04:39

Ive never written a review, but being that I read reviews before booking our stays & that this place was so amazing, its a must I write a review. 1st off the grounds are beautiful, amazing & clean. The staff are extremely attentive, pleasant & NOT over bearing. The pools are open until 11pm & the main swim up bar offers the same dinner menu as the main dining restaurant. Huge plus leaving you the choice to dress up & dine formal, or stay relaxed & have the chance to eat just as good. When calling in room service, if the food you desire is on the restaurant menu, but not on the room service menu, have no fear bc this resort will still deliver your dining desires. Whenever I asked for extra syrup or extra ketchup, they always brought more than I can handle, vs leaving me still asking for more. These things sound minor but trust me when you ask for more & receive less, the frustration will set in. With so many pools, you will find room for privacy and relaxation. U will not need to wake up at the crack of dawn to go place ur towel on a chair to reserve ur spot by the pool here. Also, once you step foot into a hot springs pool here, u will never want to step foot into a normal pool ever again! This place is 5 stars from cleanliness, customer service, to food & location. Its the attention to small things & details that this place has, that many resorts do not. Their beds feel good & the sheets are not creepy. They have netflix, appletv, hbogo & basic cable attached to their tv’s. Its the small details that make a stay away from home, feel like home. I only stayed here 2 nights thinking I needed to split my vacation up. 2 nights by the volcano & 3 nights by the beach at the westin. Needless to say, I wish we never booked the westin by the beach & wish we remained up in the mountains w/ the volcano lol. I have traveled to quite a few countries & leaving ur pools open to 11pm doesn’t equate to party central, it equates to more time to relax & connect w/ ur partner. Giving the guests the option to eat the dinner menu by the pool or the formal route is a major key bc I dont wait all year to vacation to get dressed up, I travel to be comfortable & relaxed. If u fear booking ur entire stay here bc u think u need a beach, u are wrong. Book ur entire stay here & enjoy the hot spring pools bc u will not regret it.

My husband and I spent our anniversary here this past weekend and enjoyed it thoroughly! The property is absolutely beautiful set amidst the rain forest with an amazing view of Arenal Volcano. The staff was friendly and professional. The hot springs were amazing and the food was well priced and delicious! We plan on returning for a longer stay in the future!!
