My booking was placed through Expedia on a Pay At The Hotel basis having booked for Bed and Breakfast. I was happy to book here as in previous years friends of mine stayed there and were more than happy with the location and breakfast.
Imagine my surprise when I receive an email the day before I’m due to book in saying it’s now a self service Bed and Breakfast with no onsite staff and to help ourselves to provisions in the kitchen! So no cooked breakfast as the so called provisions were individual cereal boxes or porige pots combined with cartons of juice in the fridge.
Also that they had taken full payment from my credit card a full day before I was due to book in.
This was not what I ordered but not knowing what to expect in the provisions area prior to attending, having now paid already and there being nowhere else in the area available that evening we had no option but to stay there.
On arrival parking was an issue as there were vehicles already parked in the various front bays making access to the rear all but impossible. Then later another car parked in the access so had any of the cars parked at the rear, including myself, wanted to leave it would have been impossible.
There was nail sticking out of a bedside table which my wife found with her hand when putting stuff on the side.(see the photo) an attempt was made to resolve the nail issue but without tools or an on site staff member that proved difficult.
On the positive side the Tennyson was very clean and tidy, it was quiet as we were at the back and very comfortable. On arrival our key was in the correct place and we let ourselves into a very comfortable room.
Sadly for us, as much as it is a nice place, it was expensive for what was provided and we won’t be using it again or recommending it as a place to stay.

This is not the usual guest house. There are no staff on site and the breakfasts are self-prepared. This information is not provided until after the booking is made and when it is too late to cancel. The room I had was hot and stuffy and as it was on the ground floor it was not safe to leave open a window. The picture of the property makes it look like it is in a leafy suburb but it's on a busy main road. I felt it was expensive for self-service and conned that I had not been told of the lack of onsite management in time to make alternative arrangements. I have asked for a refund but no success. I would not stay in this place again.

We booked the Tennyson for one night as we were taking part in the Steampunk Asylum for the third year and this was our first year staying over.
We were a little unsure about the self service aspect of the hotel, as we have never stayed in one of these before but it was quite exciting.
We arrived and parked up, got our key out of the box, only to find that none of our keys fit the lock!!! Luckily there was a couple coming into the building and they allowed us entry!
Our room was amazing, well furnished, the bathroom was very large and very clean! We contacted the number on the door and explained what had happened with the key. The lady came quickly and changed our key for us. Turned out we had two room keys rather than a door and a room key.
We got a taxi to the Engine Shed and then walked back later on that night as the hotel wasn't actually that far away from the venue.
We did not stay for breakfast however, we did have an inspect of the range of things on offer. A range of Cereals, porridge, teas and coffee and also toast. However, we opted to eat in Lincoln itself as we had to leave early.

A lovely bed and breakfast. The room was very clean and comfortable with tea, coffee, a fan and hairdryer provided. On the main road in to Lincoln, it has easy access to many takeaways and restaurants. You can eat takeaways in the breakfast room where you can make your own continental breakfast also. You could either have a good walk in to Lincoln (1.8m to the cathedral) or just over £5 in a taxi. I would recommend this if you like a no fuss but good standard of venue.

When we stayed there last year it was lovely ! There was a young lady who met us and told us a little bit about how it worked. Our room was nice and clean with an almost new bathroom. We were able to use the dining room for our dinner; even crystal glasses were provided for our wine! And all we had to was leave it there and it miraculously disappeared! We ordered our breakfast and it was cooked for us the following morning. Having read some of the newer reviews, it appears to have changed, but when we stayed there last year, it was wonderful !
