Lads walking weekend, top value digs👍

Great friendly welcome at this clean and simple pub digs. Land lady could no do more for us 4 walkers who did 2 sections of Hadrian's Wall near Haltwistle. Great breakfast and the authentic Bangladeshi curries were excellent. Tried all the other 3 pubs at night so plenty of choice in Alston. Overall great value but do not expect luxury spa facilities.😃

A great real surprise

First impressions can be misleading and this is no exception. Unpromising from the outside, the Victoria offers some of the best Indian food anywhere. The landlady is enthusiastic and very helpful. The accommodation modestly priced but comfortable.

Terrific food!

My partner and I were looking for a bite to eat late at night and no where in Alston seemed to be open, apart from the Victoria Inn, who serve Indian food. We were a little sceptical as we didn't expect a pub to serve food, but we went there anyway. The BEST Indian I've ever eaten in my life. We want to come back to Alston just to eat here again. The staff were friendly and funny too. We really enjoyed our time here and do hope that we can come back again.
Thank you for the amazing food and great time!

I liked it

The pub is dated, the rooms perhaps in need of a little tlc, but I liked it. What can you get for £30 these days? The Victoria has no pretensions of grandeur it's a simple honest b&b run by friendly staff who are very helpful. The breakfast was also excellent. I only gave it four stars to start with but on reflection I'm changing it to five stars to try to make sure it's there next time I visit.

Cheap and cheerful

I only booked this hotel a few days before and it cost me £30 which was miles cheaper than anything else available. It was a small single room with a sink in the corner and a toilet next door. For a single nights stay it was fine for me as I had the facilities I needed and the bed was very comfortable resulting in a good nights sleep. The place is looking tired and could use a bit of decoration but I got a good breakfast in the morning and couldn't have asked for any more at the price. There was wifi advertised but I couldn't even get the hub however internet coverage was poor in what is a fairly remote area. Alston is in an area of outstanding beauty and is an olde world town with an excellent real ale pub.
