This Westin is an older property near the Halifax waterfront. The key and room assignments were ready when we arrived and luggage was quickly delivered to the rooms. Four quick elevators. Public areas show signs of age- stained carpets and scuffed walls. The room was a medium size with two double beds and a small bath. The decor and furnishings were modern and attractive. The room had in room coffee, refer, safe and no microwave and a medium flatscreen and lots of channels. One complementary bottle of water. Complementary internet and quiet HVAC. The bath had excellent toiletries and very good towels. The bed and linens were very good. With the exception of no iced tea available the buffet breakfast was excellent. Good location and all in all a very good house. CT-5

The last time I was at this hotel was in the late 1980's; I recall the beautiful wood paneling in the lobby, The wood is still there but time has taken its toll - perhaps the hotel was just remodeled in the 1980's. Now it is just a dated hotel. The bathroom in my spacious room was so tiny the bathroom door had to close before one can fit in. The hotel is noisy: the person in the room above--well they were walking until 200AM and one could hear every step. It is a nice hotel and the people are nice: but it is dated and desperately in need of renovation--including the plastic bath tub.

I was en route to New York from Montreal by cruise ship when a severe Atlantic storm forced the ship to dock in Halifax for what would turn out to be two nights. The rest of the cruise was cancelled and the ship was ultimately going straight to New York. Since I was booked to fly back to Toronto, there was no point going into the U. S. only to return to Canada now that the rest of the ports of call were cancelled. I decided to book train travel on Via Rail Canada with a sleeper overnight to Toronto, but the train was not going to depart for two days. The Westin Nova Scotian is directly adjacent to the rail station, so I booked a deluxe room. The hotel came as a pleasant surprise. It is very comfortable, modern with an old world touch and its guest accommodations are cheerful and highly comfortable. The hotel's main dining room served excellent meals with an attentive staff. I found that the two days spent were relaxing and most enjoyable.
I would highly recommend the Westin Nova Scotian to anyone coming to Halifax who wants quality accommodation in a major full-service hotel. It is also very well located within easy walking distance of the harborside walk and the downtown.

I traveled to Halifax from Montreal with my family on the train. One pro to this hotel is it is located right at the train stop, so we just collected our baggage and checked into the hotel right there. That was great considering we had just spent 24 hours on a train and we were ready for a real hotel room. You can tell this is an older hotel that has been remodeled because the rooms and bathrooms are on the small side. But we were traveling with family and they managed to book us adjoining rooms, which was very convenient. The location was good, we were able to walk to the waterfront and to lots of restaurants. One of our dinner reservations was too far to walk so they called us a taxi, which was nice. However, one of the nights there was a wedding that had a DJ and dancing going until midnight, maybe later. I couldn't believe that we could hear it so loudly because we were on the fifth floor. Overall, I don't know what other options there are as far as hotels in Halifax, but I would consider staying here if there aren't many other options. But it was just a hotel with a decent location, it wasn't amazing.

We went to Halifax on last minute whim. My wife used points for our room. The room faced the Halifax Harbour and was situated in just the perfect location for exploring. We walked almost everywhere we went. The hotel is just off the Harbourwalk with plenty of shops and restaurants in close proximity. Great concierge and helpful hotel staff always on hand and a great sports bar that served some latte night food to weary travelers.
