Have just stayed here for the fourth time and yet again we had a lovely stay..
Yes the room is a bit basic but seriously who cares as it is spotlessly clean, the beds are comfortable, the room is lovely and warm and the shower was hot.
Tea/coffee/hot chocolate in rooms along with kettle.....also toiletries in the bathroom.
Breakfast was served in the bar with plenty of choice of cereals, toast, and a full English breakfast which was lovely.
The owner and the lady who did breakfast were very friendly and helpful.
Really for the price you pay this is a fab B and B and we will definitely be returning before long....Thank You
Comfortable room, friendly welcome

Read quite a few negative reports about the White Horse, but a lot of positive ones also, so decided to book it. Glad I did.
Stayed here for 2 nights beginning of November. Stayed in the courtyard which is a very quiet, secluded area. The room was comfortable and had all the necessary amenities. 2 really nice nights sleep, heard no noise from the surroundings or next door. Breakfast was served by Dave, the Gaffer, who is definitely a people person, friendly and welcoming. Had one slight query about the room which was quickly sorted by Jo, Dave's wife.
I visited the pub whilst I was here and was surprised to feel like a local within no time at all. The locals are friendly and welcoming.
I would highly recommend a stay here if you are visiting the area. You will not be disappointed.
Unpretentious

I usually manage short trip to Ripon every year and always stay the White Horse.
Ripon is a lovely old North Yorkshire Market Town that' s steeped in history. It has a huge market square (market day is Thursday), a magnificent Cathedral, loads of places to eat and every night at 9pm, the Ripon Horn Blower blows his horn (it still seems to be a he) in the market square to set the watch. A tradition unbroken for over 1,000 years, Also, Ripon is a good base to get to the Dales,.Harrogate, York and Fountains Abbey.
The accommodation at the White Horse is basic and unpretentious.. There are faults to be found if you look hard enough but the basics are spot-on - a beer to be had at the bar before 'lights-out', a warm room, a clean and comfortable bed, all the facilities in the room you need, a hot shower and a great breakfast. Parking is tight, but I've never experienced difficulties.
Maybe because it's low season, but I paid only £40 per night, including breakfast. It was a long time ago, in my experience, that £40 was the standard charge for a good B&B room in North Yorkshire - or anywhere else, for that matter.

Arrived , given a key to a room which turned out to be occupied. Given another key. No heating, no hot water in the morning. Was abruptly woken up by housekeeping banging on door shouting we needed to be out at 10.30am ( normally expecting especially on a Sunday to vacate room at noon ) not a word was said on checking about anything.
Great hotel.
