came without booking on Friday night, service received was excellent, nice atmosphere, room was good, had everything I needed, would recommend and come again. Garden play area and in the sun shine was nice place to relax

Really needs sorting out and managing properly!

Where to start!
Tarriff outside says double rooms £65.we were charged £85!
The lady on the bar/reception was lovely & booked us in quickly. In the bar almost all the beers and larger had run out! Some came back on over the weekend. Music constantly sticking in the bar! And being ignored by the staff! Must happen a lot.

The room was the smallest we have ever seen and stayed in, especially at this price! ! Having a nosey we found that others were a lot larger... The ones used for single nights, we were here 3! Not the right thing to do! It was clean but in serious need of tlc.

The owners were conspicuous by their absence, however all the staff were really nice and couldn't do enough for us. Shame on the management!

First breakfast. No coffee, well what there was was like tar! No T pots just a geezer and T bags, milk in the carton! Really! Diy toast.. OK I guess. I think there were only 5 for breakfast one lady waiting and cooking.

Ate here Saturday, cremated burger! Need I say more!

Second breakfast.... 28 people to server by 1 lady, cooking and serving all by herself and trying get ready for Sunday lunch. No desert or tea spoons, milk in carton, empty cereal boxes (big ones, empty from the day before!) tables not set up for the grouping of people ie not enough settings for couples, causing confusion. And there were lots of tables for 2! This is a training issue as apparently the tables were set by the bar staff the previous evening! Who left Henry the vac out to trip everyone up!

Wine by the bottle, no price, however we were charged £15.50 for a bottle with £5 on the label. It's not hard to remove a label!

This place needs to be taken in hand and soon. And they need a gardener and a karcher for outside!

I came to the white rose hotel today on the back of a recommendation of a friend (usually the best types of recommendations), who said that the food, atmosphere and ambience was one I would find appealing. Arriving I saw the car park was a decent size with ample enough room for around 30 - 40 vehicles. Access into the car park is easy and just off the main road.
The exterior is well kept and welcoming and has a rustic feel to it. This feeling continues upon entering and the interior is simple mix of modern and old fashioned country. I was greeted by the bar manager, Dave, who welcomed me in and told me about the food they had on offer for the day.
The food was excellent, well cooked, good sized portion and pleasing to the eye. It tasted superb and it was easy to see that there was an enjoyment in the making of it and pride taken in the quality they wanted to serve.
My overall experience was excellent. The staff were friendly, the food was excellent and the overall feel was quite homely. I would strongly recommend anyone who is looking for somewhere with great food and a good atmosphere to try this place. I did and I wasn't at all dissapointed with what I found.

I visited the White Rose about a week or so back and was a bit sceptical about my stay due to the not so good reviews it had received.
From check in to check out I had a great stay, the room was basic however it was spotlessly clean and the bed was comfy and the bathroom was stocked with complementary toiletries. Having freshened up I paid a visit to the bar area and again I was greeted with the same friendliness I received at check in, the bar was serving a couple of local draft ales and a good selection of lagers.

As the evening progressed a few locals came and went, again they were all friendly and made an effort to make me feel welcome however if you're not the talkative type and prefer your own company there is a large area set to the side of the bar with wing backed chairs and sofas all centred around an open fire.

Currently the White Rose is under a new management team so with any type of business there's always going to be a few wobbles on the way, one of them being they we're searching for a new chef so that meant they we're unable to serve food that evening (This has probably been rectified as of this review) However they did inform customers of alternative venues in the village and this did not have an impact on breakfast, a large full English set me up for the long journey home.

One final point was, I had to visit a local business round the corner from the White Rose (I was having work done on my pickup) And was going to be hanging around for 3 hours + to that end the manager postponed my check out allowing me to relax in my room hence my rating of excellent.

I needed to book five rooms in one hotel while working in Thirsk for a weekend. Thie White Rose fitted price budget I had. So booked the rooms not expecting the Hilton. The hotel has recently been taken over (three weeks ago I think) and everything was fine. The staff pleasant. Rooms were fine . Clean etc we had a drink in the bar as well as our evening meal. Again.. Not the Hilton five star dining... But very acceptable bar food. We are due back in Tbirsk again soon. And i expect we will stay here again.
