Thought we'd found the perfect hotel for our frequent visits to Wales, perhaps not!
Mark Ron 07/11/2017 17:47Having family in Wales we visit 2 or 3 times a year and had been using the Premier Inn in Barry, but after a few bad visits there decided to try somewhere else, we found the 3 Horseshoes and stayed in June, and had a great time .. great room, food, people, perfect, so didn't hesitate to book again for our November visit to see family before xmas.
Unfortunately this time wasn't so great, stayed for 3 nights in room 5 ... toilet seat broken, curtains broken, loud noise from kitchen machinery directly below, not a great start to our visit.
Booked for dinner with the in-laws on the Sunday, was told all booked at breakfast the day before, reminded the manager in the morning at breakfast, arrived 15 minutes before booking to be told there was no booking! A bit embarrassing as we'd big'ed up this place to our family. Meal was fine, but a bit annoyed at their lack of organisation.
On the Sunday they had a firework display, which we were looking forward to, but we arrived back at the hotel at 6:30pm (fireworks start at 8pm) and could not find anywhere to park, the place was packed! A man with a high-viz vest was arranging parking and when we told him we were guests at the hotel he said "we don't have any guests staying tonight". What?
I don't want to moan about this place, our June visit was brilliant, but I think their problem is they've over-diversified, they run a pub, a restaurant, a childs play area, an outside catering business and a guest house, and I think they've taken on too much and need to drop one or other of their income streams, preferably the guest house as they don't seem to be paying it much attention at the moment and they seem to be doing very well (money wise) with their other ventures. Either that or appoint a dedicated hotel manager as they're tripping over themselves at the moment and making too many avoidable mistakes.
Good business stop over
Wearytraveller44_12on 09/08/2017 12:18Booked the Three Horse shoes online and pleasantly surprised with how nice the room was. I was given Room 5 which looks recently refurbished. Big bathroom complete with bath and good shower, and huge bed which was comfortable.
Enjoyed a good dinner from a substantial pub menu and had steak and chips which came with salad, coleslaw, peas and onion rings. Phew. Large portion, so didn't attempt really nice looking homemade puds.
Good selection of ales, both real ales and the usual on tap beers, lagers and cider.
Staff are really friendly - thank you Helen - and keys were ready on arrival. As I had to return to work, pre-ordering dinner was not an issue and the hotel was more than willing to be flexible with breakfast too.
I did spot a really well equipped children's adventure play area both inside and out, with special offers for school hols.
The location is out in the country, so quiet, except for the sound of the chillers below my room starting up every 20 or 30 minutes and having the window open it was rather loud! Perhaps some work needed on quietening that down would be advisable, hence my average score on sleep quality. Other rooms may not hear this I hope!
Relaxing
heidi319on 01/08/2017 10:44My boyfriend and I stayed here on my first visit to Wales. All the staff here were very friendly and very welcoming. The room we had was cosy and spotless and breakfast was superb.
I certainly will stay here again if I'm in this area again.
Overnight stay
Sue Won 25/06/2017 21:44We were given a very warm welcome by the staff and our room was lovely. Quite modern and very clean. We stayed just the one night, but the food was good quality both in the evening and for breakfast. The best thing was the customer service and warmth of all the staff during our stay.
Lovely weather sour face
Chez198on 06/04/2017 16:01First bit of lovely weather so we went after school with the kids decided to have a pint and chips in the sun. The barman was lovely friendly and welcoming. We ordered chips (£3 a portion and not really worth it) sat out in the sun to enjoy the Weather seemed to be an awfully big issue for the lady to bring them to our table didn't speak to us even when we thanked her for the food she had brought out (not a lot to ask to acknowledge your customers especially when you work in a customer based business 👍🏼) had the gentleman that served us brought them out this review would probably be very different. Overall it is a lovely place to sit on a nice day but the kids playground outside needs revamping. This is the first visit we haven't overally been impressed mind we've visited a lot over the years hence why it was the first place we thought of when the sun came out. A smile and acknowledgement goes a very long way in the customer services sector
