Satsifactory Stay

I recently stayed at this property with a group of 20 people for 6 nights. It was located about 2 hours from SAL airport, San Salvador. The location was right off the main road, Av Indepedencia, and in the proximity of a shopping center, MetroCentro, and various food options, including Burger king, McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Pollo Campero, and Mister Dounuts, about 2.5 KM away. The hotel was generally staffed by a single receptionist who was always friendly and helpful. There was an armed guard present who was generally stationed near the entrance but made the circuit around the property sporadically. There was WIFI in the lobby area, that was able to reach my room inconsistently at the back of the property. The other hotel rooms around the main courtyard appeared a little older, with the 7 story unit at the back of the property looking somewhat newer in construction. Most rooms had a single key assignment per room, while some rooms used an electronic card key access. The hotel had various meeting rooms, which appeared to be frequently used by various local organizations and businesses. There was a dining room, but did not appear to have regular food service. Our group had a daily breakfast and two dinner services, through prior arrangement with the establishment. The food was adequate, and not particularly memorable and mostly the same each day. The Nestle coffee dispenser in the lobby was available with a cost of $.75 per small cup, that was great and the highlight of my evenings. Other than wifi and a pool, there was no real amenities available like a snack bar or gift shop. There was a counter display in the lobby for some products if a guest wanted to pick up chips, a keychain, or a sweat shirt of Father Romero, a historical hero. My room was clean and organized in the classic double queen bed, AC, TV, couch, chair, and small closet. The daily towel exchange was provided along with two bottles of water. The room was quiet and beds were moderately firm for a good night of sleep. The building elevator was small and could accommodate about 4 persons or two with luggage. Overall an adequate stay without any complaints.
Tolteka Plaza Hotel very nice.

This hotel is very nice. Spacious, and clean. Convenient location. Just off main highway, bus stop and the big mall on extreme east side of town (closer to El Congo and San Salvador). It is separated out front by a large front yard, so you feel secure, and separate from road. Armed guard at door way. Did not hear street noise. There was a large wedding taking place one evening, but the hotel is built around a nice large interior courtyard/pool so no noise at all from wedding. Our room faced the pool, which from other reviews is preferable to facing the street. This is comparable to a Days Inn in America, like a 3 star American hotel. It looks and feels like an American chair hotel of the 3 star variety. The only issue I had was ordering food in the restaurant because they speak no English, and the menu is in Spanish only. The restaurant staff were pleasant, but somewhat disinterested and only checked back on our table infrequently. This was curious as we were the only ones in the restaurant at about 7 or 8pm. It is of medium size with perhaps 20 tables. The receptionist helped us order a Pizza Hut delivery, and also a taxi. She was pleasant, and cooperative, but no English ability.
For Santa Ana not as bad you can think of

A big room, with air conditioned, LCD TV with cable, good bed and big bathroom. Nothing fancy, clean. Really it was late, was real tired; I have a good night sleep!
The other day a good shower and went to have breakfast. It was one of the simplest breakfast! nothing out of this world, but at least I have something to eat. For Santa Ana I really believe can be one of the best option for the cost (yes it was not expensive)
Clean room and cold AC

The hotel is in a good location if you are traveling, due to its proximity to highways and by-passes. The room I was given was very clean, quiet, and best of all, the AC was ice cold. The continental breakfast was a joke. The staff ranged from very helpful to could care less about my needs.
Multi night stay with the family

My family and I recently stayed at the Tolteka for 5 nights. The first two nights were broken up by a trip to Playa del Sol and then a trip to Lago de Coatepeque. We stayed in 3 different rooms over the course of our stay. This is El Salvador. Don't expect too much. With that said the rooms, linens and towels were night and I was comfortable with the level of cleanliness. I prefer the rooms with the poolside view, as these rooms have tile floors, which I find to be less smelly. The hotel is old but well maintained. There is a pretty pool but the water was a little cloudy. The first night we stayed there I believe we were the only guests. This hotel is oddly quiet sometimes. But I guess quiet is better than loud. All in all we stayed here for 5 nights and didn't have any major problems with safety or security. I wouldn't say its an amazing hotel, there really aren't any other choices in Santa Ana.
