Just ok

I stayed for a few nights with my family and it was just ok. The whole place is just a little dated and feels like it needs some TLC. The staff was always nice and the breakfast was fine. But that's about it. The stairs looked like they needed vacuumed the whole time we were there. The walls were thin. Other than being close to where I needed to be I probably would not stay again given the choice.
Great customer service

We arrived (late 10:30!) and settled in to a two bedroom 1 bath suite, but the toilet was not flushing. I called the front desk and immediately a man ( the night auditor, I think his name was Chris) came to attempt to clear it. Unfortunately he was unable to. After some discussion/problem solving he left to try and find two adjoining rooms for us. He quickly was able to have us move a few rooms down the hall with two adjoining rooms which worked just fine. We were resettled quickly and without any frustration. The rooms in this hotel are clean and efficient. The kitchen/fridge is awesome when traveling with kids. For the price, this hotel is really a great option. I could tell by the response from the front desk that our satisfaction was important and that was really appreciated by our family. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
Not up to the Marriott standard

I was in the Washington D.C. area for a reunion with my old military unit and as a Marriott rewards member, I am somewhat biased and prefer the Marriott line of hotels. My son plays travel hockey and I am in hotels nearly every weekend from September through March. Since I was travelling with only my son and his friend, I did not feel the need to spend a lot of money on 2 nights for a weekend trip and I kept it consistent with our hockey trips. We stayed at the TownPlace suites in Springfield VA because it offered a very reasonable price considering its proximity to Washington D.C. and the location of the reunion I was to attend. To say this hotel was below standard is an understatement. Check in was uneventful. We dropped our bags off to the room as we were leaving to meet a friend of mine. I quickly needed to use the bathroom to relieve myself, I flushed the toilet and it overflowed. I went to the front desk to ask for maintenance of a plunger and the concierge did not have either. Instead she offered a new room. We moved our bags to the new room. Upon entering the room we found it to be very humid. I turned on the AC and we left. After returning several hours later the room was much cooler but still very humid. They clearly have a humidity issue in the buildings. This was further evidenced by the mold and mildew we found on the pillow and sheets for the pull out bed that were stored in the closet. To make matters worse my son found a condom wrapper on the floor. It is clear that their cleaning staff is lacking. The beds were lumpy and uncomfortable. I would have left and tried to find another hotel but space was limited in the area due to the national Boy Scout jamboree being held in Washington D.C. at the same time. I completed Marriott's on-line Guest Satisfaction Survey and was contacted by a representative who offered an apology and added 5000 points to my account. I am still shaking my head over this stay.
Needs updating

The hotel is nice, but the furniture in the rooms are dated... stuffing coming out of arm of chair, etc. The mattresses are very soft... my guess is they need to be replaced. The light when you first come in the room, did not work... reported this to the front desk but was told that their engineer had gone home for the day. That being said I felt it was an okay room at a great price. The fact that it had a full kitchen was a definite bonus. The free breakfast each morning was a nice addition. Their was a great variety of food - however with over 400+ rooms the breakfast room could have used some reorganization. Great variety of food just very congested and hard to get at. Free shuttle service to metro available only during the week. Had to wait almost 2 hours to be picked up after we called. (this was disappointing as other nearby hotel shuttles had come and gone several times while we were waiting) Hotel is definitely older and some areas had a foul odor to them.
Disappointing

I normally do not write reviews on anything at all, but in this case I had to so that people would really know the truth. I have stayed at many Marriott hotels and quite a few TownePlace Suites; however by far this was the worst. I really do not understand how this hotel received a 4 star rating. The only thing I can think of is maybe people haven't stayed at other Marriot hotels before. I did not see the reviews before I stayed there if I had I would not have. This hotel did have good access to stores, the interstate, restaurants and things you needed and the staff was nice which was great; however the looks on the outside are deceiving when you go on the inside of the rooms. The beds and pillows were not comfortable so we did not receive good rest the entire stay, especially the pull out couch. The pull out needed a new mattress by far. The furniture and carpet was very worn out. I poured water on the floor in the kitchen and tried to clean it up and in doing so part of the cabinet which was falling apart hit me in the face. It does not appear that this hotel has had any renovations since it has been opened. I really do not need for Management to respond to this review due to the fact by looking at the previous reviews I keep seeing the same response. I am not trying to be mean or ugly, just being honest.
