Good clean warm hotel, but be careful of very steep stairs, especially coming back after heavy night out. Overlooking canal, close to Rembrandt plain (square). Expect to spend twice as much as you expect too, drinks range between €6 to €9 a pint, fantastic relaxed city though. This hotel within walking distance of all the sights and various bar areas. Would stay here again, reasonable value.
A great hotel on the canals in an real, old, canal house

You get the real feel for Amsterdam here. But be aware this is an old canal house and as such has steep steps and limited space. But if you want a nice, clean room in an authentic setting next too the trams and downtown, there are few options better for the price. Beds were the best we have had in our trip through Europe this fall. Owners were very helpful with everything. Updates were nice to the rooms and bathrooms. Noise is noticeable in a building this old. The ambiance, location and authenticity are what you get.
Think carefully!

We wanted 4 rooms in the same hotel and the Townhouse Hotel seemed a decent choice. There were 6 of us, 3 with various health/mobile issues but nothing major. We were separated between 2 buildings! Two of the rooms were single and up in the attic. The stairs were horrendously steep and certainly wouldn't be legal in the UK. Rooms were cramped and 4 of us had to share bathroom and toilet facilities. This we knew when booking but it is not a pleasant experience. Staff were not unfriendly but also not very helpful... The reception/lounge was tiny and this was where breakfast was to be served. We didn't have breakfast there as, quite frankly, we didn't want to give them the money. I'm sure this would be a great choice for the young and healthy but certainly not for us. On the plus side, the hotel is next to a tram line offering easy access to everything. Close to some lovely restaurants. The rooms and shared bathrooms were clean.
OK for a city trip

This hotel consist of 3 buildings in close proximity; so there's a reception and wee lounge/ breakfast area in 1 of them. The room I had initially been allocated, was very small and did not have a window (only a small one in the toilet). Bit too cramped and claustrophobic for me; especially since the weather was really warm too. Anyway, I asked if there would be another room available, and luckily, there was, for a surcharge that I was happy to pay.
Very courteous and helpful staff, and rooms and bathroom were very clean. Did not use the breakfast that would have been available (at a cost), so can't comment on that.
Overall a very pleasant stay, in a fairly quiet part of Amsterdam, and still very much in the middle of things. Maybe not a hotel if you spend a lot of time in your room, otherwise I would recommend and come back to it myself.
Also lots of restaurants, bars, places for lunch close by and a supermarket or two, too!
shocking
