On Robson is the only good point

Too expensive & too old. Age really shows everywhere. Looks like nothing was updated. Only the furniture pieces look less than 20 years old. Do not recommend for family. Kitchen makes it tempting for family or group, but everything is so old, you question the sanitariness of food cooked in such place.
Never again

We have always stayed there because it is inexpensive and we didn't mind its old and a bit neglected. This trip featured: torn curtain liners, unpredictable water temperatures in the shower (think cold more than hot) vacuuming right outside the oh so thin do it at 8 am and my personal favourite, two dead elevators.
That meant hiking down stairs with suitcases etc from the 12th floor. Did any of the people in the lobby offer to help? Insert laughter here. Did they respond when I asked where my hubby was since his suitcases were there but he wasn't? Add more laughter.
We did get an apology for having to take the stairs.
I would sleep in our car before staying there again.
Great base for Vancouver visit

My wife and I were joined by another family couple while visiting Vancouver for a few days before and after a cruise. We reserved 2 rooms at the Tropicana Suite Hotel for our pre-cruise visit and were so happy that we reserved 2 rooms for the post-cruise visit too. The rooms are really 1 bedroom apartments with a small kitchenette. The building is older and needs a TLC. The public areas are not in good condition. Most of the lights in the elevators did not work, water dripped from the lobby ceiling during part of our visit, and the hallways are not well decorated. However, the units were very clean, the bathrooms were well maintained, the bedroom is midsized with a queen size bed, and the living room had floor to ceiling windows with a terrific view of downtown Vancouver. The staff gave us great customer service and the cleaning staff left the room spotless every day. The rates are very competitive. Lots of nearby stores, markets, shopping, and numerous restaurants. The Tropicana Suites Hotel will be our home for future Vancouver visits.
Great suite with big window

Great place to stay. You can rent monthly and get cheaper price. Great services as well, they are willing to give you information when you ask question.
Free cancelation fee when you book on person at their front desk.
Lights didn't work, rude staff, mess in beds. Avoid like the plague!

After staying at a range of different accommodation styles around Vancouver from hostels, to luxury hotels I have to say i was most impressed with levels of service and valie across the board in the city, until staying at the Tropicana on Robson st.
Upon arrival we gained the attention of an older gentlemen behind the front desk who became blatantly rude when the credit card did not work at first. There were sufficient funds so it could have only been a technical difficulty however he was less than helpful, welcoming or accommodating. He seemed quite aggravated that there was a different name on the card compared to the reservation made by my friend, prompting him to have to produce another piece of paper to sign.
At first impression the room was quite dated looking but spacious, clean and quite acceptable. However after spending the afternoon and evening enjoying the city we came back to find the living room light and one lamp didn't work, leaving one small lamp to light the room. When we'd previously passed front desk on the way up we noticed a man dressed very casually sitting on a phone in front of a computer speaking another language, appearing to be an off duty employee using the facilities, not someone who could help with our light situation, so we thought we would mention it at check out and see what if we could be compensated.
Upon folding out the sofa bed wander lamp light we discovered it had been folded up with loose popcorn in it.
On checkout, we mentioned the lights to the same gentleman who checked us in, who absolutely could not care less and without a even so much as a "sorry", then asked something along the lines of: "Oh so you did work how to turn the lamp on alright"
Might be an appealing location but definitely not worth the price. Hostels are more comfortable
