What People are saying
nice hotel a little outside of the city center
JKDon 14/10/2017 00:33A bit outside of the central old town, the Tryp Leon Hotel is located in a residential neighborhood. The advantage is that there is an opportunity for street parking for free; if no spaces are available, the hotel lot is available for 11 euro. The other advantage is a market located basically across the street.
The walk to the old town takes about 15 minutes, so this location is worth it for the quiet and more solid hotel walls (although we did have a hostile child upstairs for a while with wall banging). The room was decorated in a simple, modern style with a long desk area, two chairs, as well as luggage stand and nightstands. There is also a closet. The room was very spacious and the bathroom had nice tile on the walls and floor. Amenities are probably standard for the TRYP hotels – dental kit, shaving kit, etc; shampoo, shower gel and soap are from the refillable containers with respect to eco-sensitibility.
There was adequate lighting from the various table and overhead lamps. A stocked mini-bar is also provided.
This hotel suited us perfectly.
johnhouston2on 25/09/2017 17:05Trip Leon is a modern hotel just outside the city centre, and is a brisk 15 minute or more leisurely 20 minute stroll to the town centre. I read a comment in a previous review suggesting that the reviewer would not feel safe walking here at night. Although the section of the main avenue nearest the hotel isn't the smartest in the world, that fact remains that the whole walk into town is on a main, well lit and populated street. We walked it several times and never felt unsafe.
The hotel has underground car parking that has no height access problems, but I found that whereas the parking spaces were nicely wide, they were a tad short for my Discovery. The receptionist had suggested that this might be the case and, just as I did, I suggest that you take the lift down to the garage area to assess if it is suitable for your car.
The alternative is to use the street parking which, as the hotel is not in a particularly built up area, is generous. And the receptionist assured me that all parking in the immediate area is perfectly safe.
Our third floor room was a Premium room and was very large, nicely decorated and very comfortable. My one criticism is that wi-fi, which is such a modern requirement, is so slow as to be almost useless.
When we checked in we were advised that the breakfast buffet is 12 Euros per person, but if you book it at check in, it is 9 Euros. We took this option and it was very good value with a wide choice, including hot options of scrambled and fried eggs, bacon, sausage etc.
The staff throughout our stay were very pleasant and, all in all, this hotel suited us perfectly.
Slightly dated rooms
grapowon 20/08/2017 19:20We chose León as our final stop on the long drive north from our Dénia home to our ultimate destination the Picos de Europa. We concur with the 20 minute walk i to the centre of town (which was fantastic once we arrived by the way) but we found the district slightly intimidating and certainly wouldn't have walked it after dark. Fortunately there were plenty of taxi options.
There is nothing actually wrong with the hotel other than everything seemed to us to be slightly tired but we do have one major gripe! In this day and age an efficient wifi is considered a must have surely? The network in this hotel was practically non existent!
For a major hotel chain in a large city this is not acceptable!
One other recommendation, the underground car park (11€ per night), like a lot of Spanish hotels is quite tight and great care is recommended when manoeuvring thru the car park or selecting spaces.
Modern hotel.
Mark Don 13/06/2017 19:38Nice place to stay in Leon for one night. Hotel not in the center and it will take about 20 min. to walk. Large rooms and bathrooms, very clean. Staff is very nice. Good breakfast and good WI-FI speed.
Let down by out of the way location and poor ac
Djh2711on 30/05/2017 15:29This hotel is newly built on the outskirts of Leon about a 20minute walk from the old downtown quarter. Built in a residential area the hotel is relatively quiet with few surrounding bars or restaurants. Our check in was long because their was only one person on the counter and a party of 5 had arrived before us. Not a good start after our long Camino walk. The lady on check in was friendley and helpful however. Our room was decent size but the bed was not very comfortable. What really marked the place down for us was the heat in our room. The ac did not work properly and we had a room on the front of the building which was subject to string sunlight all day. The front desk sent a cleaner to try to resolve the problem. Need less to say she was unsuccessful. We opened our door and 4 th floor window to get some breeze and a slightly lower temp. Shower, bathroom was good. Fridge was in the room. We had breakfast the next day which was Buffett style help yourself and this was ok.
We would not stay in the hotel again because of its location too far from the cultural centre and the poor air conditioning. A pity as the hotel is relatively new and inexpensive.
