This hotel seemed to be pseudo student accommodation and I was unlucky enough to have inconsiderate hotel guests on my floor who were yahooing into the early hours of the morning. Combined with the trams starting early outside the window I managed about 4 hours of broken sleep. I got a good price but won't be staying here again.

Yes the room is small but it was clean and tidy, and you cannot blame the hotel for the building site next door, and there is a lot of building work currently in Melbourne.
You don't spend a lot of time in the room anyway !

Relatively quiet

Breakfast (at $1 pre-booked) is a real bargain
Cons:
Small rooms
A bit dark, but not too bad
A lot of AirAsia staff stay here and it very much feels like what a hotel that AirAsia owned would look like. No frills but does the job. All in all, if you aren't going to be hanging around the room a lot it does the job well.

No, you couldn't swing a cat in this room. Think more a monk's cell. If you want space, an armchair, a cupboard, a fridge, a view then don't come here. But when I go to a hotel the most important things are cleanliness and a quiet night's sleep. The Ibis Melbourne definitely has these. The bed was OK - we asked for an extra pillow each and received a very strange thing indeed - a lumpy bag full of chopped up sponge but that worked if you put it under the main one. Breakfast is $2 so I won't say any more about that. Position is great if you need to go to one of the local hospitals, eat in Lygon Street or just catch a tram to yhe CBD. Desk service was excellent. Don't confuse this Mercure with the other one in Swanston Street. This is Carlton not CBD. I'd stay here again if I needed to do things locally. It's good value.

We stayed in the standard room which was very standard but clean and tidy and did the job. Close to trams and close to the city and most tourist sites. Would be good if they had a bar fridge in the room (could fit under the desk or somewhere).
