Dreamy, Romantic, Royal...A Stay at this Maharaja's Palace is Epic

We stepped into a dream as we walk up the red carpet entrance to Umaid Bhawan Palace...we were transported into an opulent and overwhelming setting indeed fit for a Maharaja. Greeted with a cavalcade of Rajasthani-costumed palace attendants who canopied us with a giant red velvet umbrella, we knew this would be an unforgettable stay.
Inside, the palace dome is beyond impressive, even jaw-dropping, and the gorgeous jasmine-inspired fragrance fills your heart with delight. But the care and attention of the staff is even more grand and yet so personal. Champagne was poured, greetings conveyed, photos made, and we were royally escorted to our spectacular Heritage Art Deco Suite toward the peaceful back courtyard of the palace.
The spacious room was appointed to perfection...lovely art deco furniture beautifully filled this romantic space which shared a private porch along its full length. The bathroom was equally impressive with a gorgeous shower, seductive tub, plus his and her vanities and a closet with crested luxe velvet robes. A stunning, giant painting of peacocks hung above the bed and foreshadowed the bird calls we would enjoy upon awakening the next morning.
Dinner at Pillars was romantically breathtaking as we sat on the terrace overlooking the main garden with the ancient city and Mehrangarh Fort in the distance. No doubt food and wine were divine. Service was refined and elegant. Remember to ask for authentic Inidian wines and sparkling wines from Grover Vineyards. Umaid Palace is one of the few hoteliers to offer selections from this exceptional domestic winery - you will be impressed.
Early mornings we awoke to the peaceful surrounds. Stepping out on the main porch overlooking the pavilion, a gentle breeze warmed the air while a cacophony of bird calls, peacock songs and magnificent scenery engulfed our senses. The lovely outdoor pool was calling us, but not after we enjoyed yoga in this magical setting. Then it was off to breakfast...
Champagne flowed and breakfast was sublime...enjoyed on the main porch overlooking the gardens. Even tea service was artfully prepared with every last pour timed and delivered with a flourish. Unbelievable.
On another day, we loved making the Champagne (seeing a trend?) History Walk with the hotel's expert guide and historian. There are so many splendid details in the palace. These subtle facets brought the palace to life in a meaningful way. And the beautiful guide shared her in-depth knowledge with passion and enthusiasm.
Our tour was followed by an authentic Rajasthan dance performance under the dome, while royally attired attendants brought carts of sweets and treats that were so colorful and beautiful, they looked like works of art or jewels. This was such a perfect regal touch.
More dining, more champagne, more swimming, more luxuriating in our romantic sanctuary suite ensued over our three-day stay. Upon our departure, the staff prepared superb box lunches fit for a king. We were embarking on our drive to another property of the Maharaja's - Maharani Bagh Orchard some 3 hours away. And along the way we talked and re-lived every detail of our time at the Palace. Perhaps we had just stepped out of a dream. But it was all so deliciously real.
The Taj Umaid Bhagwan Palace is a Palace

The Taj Umaid Bhagwan Palace is a Palace. A majestic awe inspiring building which leaves one in no doubt that this is a special hotel.
A dome which reminds me of the Pantheon in Rome, a staff that seem to thrive off doing more than expected for you, and facilities that justify the name Palace.
The rooms are marvellous, tastefully furnished, they exemplify a period of opulence.
I don’t wish to expose the surprises guests are exposed too, no spoiler alerts, just a word to describe them, AMAZING. I am sure you will remember your stay always.
The staff are often two steps ahead of you, anticipating your needs and ready to oblige.
The Maharajah still resides in a wing of the Palace, and you feel more like his guest, than a hotel guest.
The beautiful garden area at the rear of the building is where some eighteen Japanese guests sat in the pavilion doing yoga every morning at about 6.00am. A “palatial” garden area some hundreds of metres deep and much wider. Peacocks wander near guests at breakfast time on the balcony, while musicians accompany you at breakfast. Can anything be more sublime?
My wife and I feel privileged to have stayed in this extraordinary hotel.
Unbelievable

I spent one night in a dream.
The palace is simply magnificent, and it’s there for you.
You are welcomed like a maharajah and you are immediately conquered by the amazing doom in the main hall.
Rooms are big and luxurious, in a classic style.
Dinner and breakfast in front of the garden, unforgettable.
Definitely, a unique place, that deserves to be within the best of the world.

Amazing visit! Jodhpur is very clean and not chaotic like other rajasthan cities. Awesome hospitality at the palace. Impeccable rooms and service. Enjoy morning walks. Delicious breakfast or dinner in the varandah overlooking the garden and the city. Beautiful wedding venue or to renew vows. Perfect place to experience royalty. Can go back in a heartbeat.
Unbelievable experience

This hotel makes you have a great experience . We came with a large group for a reunion ending with a private dinner in the gardens. It was to die for.
The hotel staff is excellent and the food is superb. One of the best hotels I have ever stayed in my life and I am a hard core traveler.
Beautiful place if you have a chance to come.
