Clean, comfortable stay while visiting JSU!

Visited my daughter for her birthday weekend 10/27-28, 2017. I was a bit leery of staying here based on previous reviews, but I wanted to stay locally- so I reserved a room and decided I would make my own decision and rate them afterwards.
Check in was pleasant! Lady checking me in was polite and while check-in was old school with paperwork to fill out but it still went quickly and I had no problems. Got 2 keys, room tv remote and wifi password.
Room was on the first floor near ice & drink machines. Ample parking near my room.
Upon entering room it smelled a bit like syrup/waffles I think it was the cleaner used- room was decorated in gold & earth tones.
Room was clean and non-smoking. Bathroom was clean, no mold/mildew and a good supply of tp, towels & small packets of soap and shampoo. I bring my own shampoo, so I didn't use their packets.
2 full sized beds that had clean linens, were comfortable with nice fluffy pillows. Also a table with 2 sturdy chairs, and good lighting throughout.
There is also a good sized fridge that was cold upon my arrival, a microwave that I didn't use, an ironing board/iron and space to hang clothes. There is also a standard wall hair dryer that worked well. A long dresser had the flat screen tv with several channel options and HBO channels. Remote was given to you at check in with your keys and the wifi password which also worked well.
AC/heating unit was also working well. There is not an in room coffee maker, but there is coffee in the lobby and a light breakfast, I was in a hurry so I didn't partake of either coffee or breakfast.
It's not too far from JSU, there are several fast food restaurants & sit down restaurants within 5 miles. Walmart is across the street and just a small bit down the road & the town has a local CVS & Walgreens.
University Inn was well worth the money I spent. It was a clean, comfortable room. I wasn't sure what I would find when I read some of the reviews on here. I had a pleasant stay, felt safe- there's a lock and a chain on the door, it was clean- Clean bathroom, linens, fresh towels. I saw no bugs or anything nasty. This is a small local hotel and for the price, the location to the college and the cleanliness it was well worth my visit and my return business.
Dated room. Rude manager.

I was put up in this place for work, I didn't choose it. The room was terribly dated. Awful bed/pillows. Had to have been decades old mattress. The bathroom however was clean, and neat. Continental breakfast consisted of coffee. Horribly rude manager was placing a small box of donuts in fridge. This was at 7:30 am. I asked if he had any food, he snapped NO! At me so I turned around and walked out. I will never return, and advise others to choose SOME PLACE ELSE!
We choose University Inn over and over

We have stayed here several times over the past four years and for the price, you cannot get a better deal. Our rooms have always been clean and quiet. Yes, it's dated, but it's a great deal compared to other choices in the area. The employees are always so nice and accommodating. We'll be back!
You are better off sleeping in your car

Not only is the University Inn subpar, but the staff is extremely rude! The manager "Mike" has forever ruined me on ever staying at the hotel again. There are not many hotel options in Jacksonville, AL, but you are better off sleeping in your car.
Horrifying

By far, this has been the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. I had to stay at this hotel since I was working in the nearby area, and all other hotels were booked through Talladega weekend. Staying at the University Inn is like taking a trip back in time 30 years ago because nothing has changed since then. The rooms smell nasty and they were definitely former smoking rooms. This is evidenced by the multiple burnt cigarette holes in the sheets and comforters on the bed. I had to buy blankets and a sleeping bag since I did not feel safe sleeping on their beds. The beds and everything in the room are very old. In the three nights that I stayed here the police came to the hotel twice. There were two domestic violence disputes and one ended in a person shattering a hotel room window. If you stay at this hotel you are putting your health and life at risk.
