What People are saying

Nice hotel but breakfast seriously needs improving

cosybabeson 22/07/2017 16:55

We stayed here using a Groupon voucher for two nights during a weekend in June. Borno is a lovely little mountain town and definitely worth a visit, there are lots of other nice places to visit nearby. The owner is very friendly and the hotel is very well kept, unfortunately we stayed during a roasting weekend and there's no air con in the rooms and so I had a bit of difficulty sleeping. The room was small but very clean and functional. The meal (included in our coupon) we had was certainly nothing to write home about and was very limited for Groupon guests but it was fine considering what we'd paid for the voucher. We saw other dishes for "normal customers" which looked pretty nice. My main criticism falls on breakfast, apart from a super cappuccino we found it extremely disappointing, zero effort. Packaged products and no fresh cheese....there were some non packaged croissants but they're weren't the best either. There's no way breakfast reflects a four star hotel, more like 1 star accommodation which is a shame. It doesn't take much to improve this, local cheeses, fresh jams, decent bread rolls etc. In any case we thoroughly enjoyed our stay (it was a really valid Groupon hotel offer) and would happily recommend this structure.

The nicest Albergo I've ever been

We were hosted in Albergo Venturelli to celebrate my wedding anniversary. Before we even got in there we did email the hotel, and they were very nice in providing information of the hotel the city, the skiing station and so on.
Our room was incredibile pretty, cozy and clean. The bathroom is huge and there was a perfect window by which we could see the gorgeous mountains (pre-alpes).
The break fast was more than delicious, it was perfect!
The location was perfect. Close to everything in the city and 5 minutes to the Monte Altissimo.
The restaurant was amazing!
They work hard to provide the best services for the hosts.
Next trip to Born, I won't hesitate in book again in this beautiful hotel.
Thank you so much for providing the best

Good location for Borno

The Albergo Venturelli is set in the perfect location of the mountain town of Borno, just 75 metres from the town square and available restaurants and bars, and you would never know it. Hidden away up a tiny side street we arrived by a big 4x4 car and I was a bit concerned because of the tiny streets but we got into the hotel and was able to park outside the front of the hotel for our 4 day stay.
The reception staff were very friendly and could speak a little English, I must stress their English was far better than my Italian, but a nice smile and Bon Giorno, Good Morning in any language is more than sufficient.
We stayed in room 205 which overlooked a terrace which was closed. The room was spotlessly clean and the large double bed was very comfortable, bathroom and shower were excellent although I do personally prefer a open shower to a closed in shower cubicle, but that is a minor point.
Breakfast was the usual continental style croissant, ham, cheese, yoghurt. etc.
This area is a winter ski resort but you would never know it, it was August and extremely busy, but pleasantly busy, with the evenings spent in the town square just 75 metres level walk away.
During the day we would spend exploring the countryside, mainly by car, but there was plenty to see.

There are one or two small negatives imho, which are the church bells rang in this town every 15 minutes and because of our location we were quite close to the church, shutting the shutters and window did help, I was OK because I am a heavy sleeper but my wife was not, the bells would shut off at midnight but start again at 6am.
The wi-fi in my room seldom worked despite a router on the wall right outside our room, it was very seldom working for us, but our friends room next door it worked OK, but sloooowwwww.
This hotel has no bar, so meeting people for a chat was a bit difficult and had to be in the small reception area or in the town, of course this applied to everyone, which did create a problem and the restaurant looked fabulous but this was also closed, I do not know why, maybe because it is summer.

Would we go back, oh yes, and would we stay at Albergo Venturelli again, the positives far outweighed any negatives definitely yes.

Quality and style with top food

We returned for a third time and stayed for 10 nights this time. The manager and staff couldn,t do enough for us to make our stay just perect, happy and relaxing. Really, we were made to feel like family. The food better than ever, perfect italian cuisine so tasty and memorable, with greatl wine and ambiance to create a perfect setting for romance. The hotel is very clean and furnished with traditional italian decor. Go on their web site and see the lovely bedrooms and surroundings. For winter, you can go sking some 5 mins drive, for summer it offers lots of beautiful walks across open countryside and wooded mountains, lakes and villages. The hotel is small, friendly and relaxing. Its not for those looking for loud music, noise and frantic lifestyle.

Generally a good hotel that I would recommend

JCBerkshireon 16/01/2011 17:45

I booked to spend four days at this hotel, having stumbled upon it on another website, with the intention of some New Year skiing.

First impressions as we arrived and checked in were excellent. The hotel feels clean, smart and imaginatively furnished (in an Italian way).

The welcome by the receptionist was luke warm. End of a long day maybe...

We chose to eat out every night although the ambience in the restaurant looked very appealing with the log fire always roaring.

The room was minimally furnished and spotlessly clean. Very large double bed with duvet. En suite was clean and well equipped if a bit small. Quite cramped shower enclosure, plenty of hot water and good pressure. Good sized basin, bidet and wc. Plenty of towels.

The room was heated via underfloor heating, and for us, this was always too warm even on its lowest setting.

We had a mountain view (over rooftops).

Breakfast was normal continental buffet. Not amazing but very adequate. Good coffee. Some fresh fruit would have been nice.

For us the only real problems with our stay were noise. The rooms are poorly insulated and we could hear footsteps on laminate floor above the whole time. There was also a great deal of noise from the corridors. Some of this was largely due to parents letting their kids do what they like, but nonetheless, any noise outside (including the maids) was very intrusive.

Then there were THE BELLS. The hotel is very close to the village church which has a very elaborate and unusual chime almost constantly. 24/7. They seem to follow no pattern and ring randomly and loudly all through the night. This, coupled with the fact that we needed our window open to cool down, was not a great combination for a relaxing night.

The service in the hotel was slightly disappointing, certainly not what you would expect for a 4star. The lady that served coffee at breakfast was lovely but all the rest of the staff were disinterested really. Not rude but just not interested.

None of this really spoilt what was a great trip as we are very laid back. However, anyone expecting to be waited on would be very disappointed. English is not really spoken, but for us, that didn't matter/cause a problem.

Borno itself was charming, unassuming and unspoilt. Totally off the tourist trail.
