An okay stay

The apartments were spacious and like a flat. The restaurant closed the day we arrived but it was the end of the season. Free bus service to town centre. Swimming pool was adequate for the number of apartments.
Amazing 👍🏻

Lovely hotel, spacious rooms, pools very clean and 2 to choose from.
We have stayed here 3 times now and always recommend to others.
Staff are friendly, food is nice, close to town and beaches.
Lagos town is beautiful :)
A week in the sun

We started out in a nice apartment overlooking the smaller pool. Very clean and nicely set out. But after two days they made us move to a smaller apartment overlooking the main pool. We were told they had to turn the water off because of a leak but the other apartments were still occupied and the next day different people were in our first apartment. Apart from this the staff were nice and friendly. We did not get either apartment cleaned or any fresh linen during the week.
A Very Disappointing Visit

We have stayed at Vilabranca many times mainly because of location (halfway between town and beach), easy parking, large apartments, and helpful staff. However after our experiences this time we shall not be returning.
Having paid extra for a pool view apartment, we were disappointed in the one allocated. The only view of the pool was the top of the shower and a small triangle of water. Instead we looked out at a sadly neglected "garden". We knew irrigation had been stopped last year, we assumed to cut costs.
We soon became very disturbed by the plumbing in the bathroom- gas bubbling up through the water in the toilet bowl when a toilet was flushed elsewhere in the block. After reporting this several times over 5 days it culminated in sewage spewing up through the plughole into our bath. At last a plumber was called as it was obvious maintenance could not cope.
We had to move to another apartment with just our things for the night and ,as it was a 2 bedroom, it was said that we would not be able to stay there as we had only paid for a 1 bedroom! We would be moved to a pool view room in the morning.
Next day we realised the new apartment would not be ready till late afternoon so we decided that although the new apartment overlooked the building work we would stay put and try to continue with our holiday, to which Vilabranca grudgingly agreed. So we
put up with all the irritations of a badly maintained establishment and made the best of the holiday.
When we asked for compensation for all of this we were reminded of the free breakfast we were given when we had had to move out of our apartment, also we were given a free meal and the offer of an unspecified discount on a future visit.
To end it all our chauffeur transfer to the airport booked with Vilabranca failed to turn up and we had a mad dash down the motorway in the resort shuttle bus.
Agua Hotels need to realise they have a great deal to do to bring this hotel up to standard. Sadly it is failing at the moment.
New Ownership, Declining Performance

We had stayed at Vilabranca in 2013 and, accepting it was a three star property, we gave it good marks.
Since then, however, it has changed hands and reopened in June this year under new management. Sadly, performance has suffered badly and we cannot recommend this property in it current state of disrepair.
Some of the positives were still there, good location, big apartments, good pools and, added to these, new sun loungers and parasols and handy shuttle services to town and the beaches.
On the negative side were: very poor apartment cleaning, towel exchange and bed linen change. The directory of services said the apartment would be cleaned daily, towels replaced every 2 days and bedlinen every week. We stayed 14 nights and the apartment was "cleaned" (how much can you do in 3 minutes?), towels changed twice and the bed linen not at all.
The maintenance budget appears to have been slashed. Light bulbs were missing, both towel rails in the bathroom were hanging off the wall and the bedroom window would not lock closed. Externally, despite having a pool view apartment we did not see the pools cleaned a single time. The cleaning record for the pool toilet at the west side showed that it had not been cleaned in over 2 weeks of 30 deg + weather. One of the cleaners said that there were 4 cleaners trying to look after 91 apartments.
The Algarve has suffered a severe drought - no rain for 5 months - so the gardens were in poor condition. What had been a nice lawn had turned into a desert. The exception was the areas close to reception which were watered daily. Outside of this area was a barren waste of weeds.
The Wifi was as flakey as ever and sometimes would not connect even when in line of sight of the router at the swimming pool. As reported elsewhere, the kitchen was minimally furnished and the electric hotplates hopeless. It took 30 minutes to boil eggs!
The bar and reception areas had been repainted - all in white - but we only had breakfast there the first day and were not impressed. We had dinner there one evening and it took 1-1/2 hours for our meals to arrive. To cap it all, on the last Friday of our stay the bar ran out of beer!
We can't fault the front line employees who all tried hard but there must be serious questions about the management of the property.
The area between the apartments and the road was being cleared, apparently for the construction of a hotel so it would be wise to avoid any apartment on that side of the complex or avoid completely as there are better options in Lagos at the same or better price.
Trip Advisor should not show reviews that pre-date the June 2017 reopening as this is now a very different proposition than when we last visited in 2013.
