What People are saying

Outstanding Service - Hotel a Bit Worn

Michael P on 18/09/2017 17:10

My rating is reflective of outstanding service 5+, especially by the Hotel Director - Pasqualino. He could not have been more helpful and proactive. We were part of a large group for a wedding in Calabria and he did a fantastic job. He is clearly their "star", and for that reason I would return. I agree with a few other reviews that the hotel is a bit worn and the area is not visually appealing, although it is convenient to restaurants, shops and the beach. Everything in our room worked just fine. This is just an older, more worn part of Italy. It is not the Amalfi Coast, so if you are coming here I would say this is a great option. Again, the service by Pasqualino made it a very welcoming stay.

AVOID THIS HOTEL

What a mistake...the car in the carpark should have warned me! Bovalino Marina is a shabby, crumbling, rubbish strewn no-where with unfinished buildings, refuse, cracked pavements and weeds! The Hotel is a vast dying edifice (nowhere remotely near the 5 star they claim! We waited 4 hrs for them to (unsuccessfully) try and fix the tv and internet. No hot water, pipework pressure noise, no aircon (even though the manager at the desk blatantly lied and said all was working) dusty corridors, peeling damp paintwork, last season's leaves on the terrace - the worst hotel we've ever stayed at! When I demanded a refund the owner refused to appear and the manager said that the Booking.com contract wouldn't allow that..even though I reminded him that the hotel hadn't met it's side of the agreement! We left in disgust anyway. Be warned about reviews and flashy pics - this hotel is awful and the management are so untypical of Italian hotels and Calabrian people. I challenge the mangement to refute any of this honest review.

Really I don't know how anyone rates this hotel above a 3

We made a mistake on the reservation from one to two and we were charged an extra 40 euro. Would be fine if it was offering a good selection of amenities but nothing. The breakfast was the worst I've encountered in any Italian hotel. It's also not directly on the water as it portrays. If you order in the restaurant without the menu they overcharge $35 for a pasta dish that was really worth about $15.

Friendly and helpful staff

Was Probably A Great Hotel At One Time

Biscottiboy on 30/08/2014 20:39

The pictures are great but the reality hits home when you drive up to it. It is located a couple blocks from the beach (reached by walking down an alley/stormdrain) and is isolated in a pretty desolate area. The facility itself was probably once a grand hotel with high quality materials used throughout. Unfortunately, it has suffered a bit in maintenance with water stained ceiling/walls in some places and inconsistent water pressure. Upon check in we had to ask for a new room since there was a significant mold cluster in the bathroom. The breakfast was OK but the wait staff in the restaurant did its best to ignore us. The staff at the desk was a little better. The hotel seems to be a major destination for weddings as we had to deal with 2 in the 3 days we were there. The sound systems were way too loud and sleeping before midnight was impossible. As one reviewer noted, even in the high season, the hotel seemed deserted. We went to the beach once and it was a typical stone/sand beach with decent chaises. It is the only game in town, so if you want to stay in that town you have no other option. Personally, I'd drive a bit and find a better place if possible.
