Comfortable and clean

Other reviews for this hotel are accurate so nothing further to add. However one thing to watch out for. We became locked in on the swimming pool terrace with no way of alterting anyone we were there. We freed ourselves by climbing over a ten foot security fence - which was not pleasant. The management of the hotel did not seem particularly bothered when we explained what had happened. The reason we were locked in was because there is no door handle on the outside of the door leading to the pool terrace and we think other guests leaving the pool terrace closed the door as they went inside - leaving us with no way of getting in?
This review is only for the Restaurant

We stayed in the neighbouring Tajo del Aguila (Eagle's Nest) Resort, but had dinner with the family at the Algar Village hotel's restaurant, on recommendation of our receptionist. The entree was platters of cheese and cured meats. The adults had a seafood paella - the best I've had in my travels in Andalucia. The kids had a chips and eggs meal for the one, and the other a grilled steak and chips. I had a taste of the steak and it was magic. They didn't have sangria, but the waiter offered the red wine with lemon juice and ice, which was refreshing. The bill came to just over €50 including the starters and drinks. We had no dessert, but I didn't find it dear, due to the quality of the meal.
A comfortable hotel in a quaint village

We stayed 3 nights in this hotel, which is just 2 minutes' walk out of the friendly village of Algar, with its many bars, which also serve food.
Let's start with the negatives. Parts of the external fabric of the building leave something to be desired and clearly need some remedial work, but this is not too inconvenient. Some of the carpets were a bit tatty, but gave it a bit of faded charm. The breakfasts were very uninspiring and offered little or no choice.
Now the positives. Our room was clean, quiet and comfortable, the air conditioning worked and we had great views from the balcony. Our one meal in the restaurant was very good, with an extensive menu to choose from. On summer weekends the hotel offers a good choice of barbecued food, cooked and eaten on the terrace - very popular. The staff were friendly and helpful.
The lawned pool area was well maintained and there were ample sunbeds.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay at this rural 2 star hotel, which is situated off the usual tourist trail, but within easy reach of the much busier white village of Arcos de la Frontera. I have to say that we did have one or two concerns, after reading some negative reviews, but were glad that we followed our instincts and booked in to this hotel.
