Property with promise but horribly managed

Stayed with friends for a night on 7th October. The property is wonderfully located. It is on the Pondicherry promenade and in what is known as the 'White Town' - French Quarter. It is a lovely villa. That is where the good part ends.
The staff are horrible. That is because the owner/management have recruited a bunch of youngsters who have no training or experience in hospitality. Essentially "cheap labour" has been imported with no skills imparted. This is the first hotel in India where we were not asked for any form of identification - shocking.
Our room had a four poster bed but the air conditioning and lighting was poor. The lighting in the bathroom was nearly non-existent and it was very difficult to navigate in and out of a plastic tub for a shower where you either got scalding hot or cold water.
This property can be turned around if somebody like Neemrana takes over the management.
AVOID under the current management.
Long weekend at pondicherry

We checked in during the long weekend..Apparently the sea facing rooms were all booked so we ended up staying on the first floor...First off, the rooms were tidy with clean bathrooms and toilet....the room service might be a lil shoddy as they don't have enough staff to address each one, however those get addressed whenever the attendants are around....The hotel has 11pm as a deadline for entries so make sure you return before that. The hotel manager is a resourceful person and helped us in whatever way he could. The property is facing the promenade and it's at the very heart of white town, so the location makes it up for everything.
Location and staff.. are the best part

The view and location to the hotel was the best part of the stay.. The staff is very helpful.. Would recommend you to not take breakfast.. As you can go to different cafes ( at a walkable distance) and try out different breakfast options.
NOT GREAT

One of the average hotel in pondicherry i ever seen. Not good value for money here. If you are in case of urgency then you can visit here for stay. Otherwise not suggest for anything other than the beautiful view.
Not a good value for money

We stayed at this hotel recently. Of course, the name itself suggests that it s in the white town. Many of the streets in white town are narrow, and the beach visitors park haphazardly in the evening. So it is difficult to park cars and one is always worried about someone banging into it.
The hotel is a beautiful villa, and there are a few rooms available for guests. We had a ground floor room with a sea view. However, we were disappointed that it did not have a balcony, and it was only a window covered in sun film with a view to the sea. And some renovation work is going on on the exteriors. The first floor rooms have balconies.
The room was not well maintained, although it does look heritage. Not maintained like a professional hotel, with dust over furniture. Really sad. The staff were friendly, but the problem was that they were not professional uniformed staff. It is almost as if you are intruding into their home, and the caretaker and his family were staying in one part of the villa.
The bathroom was really not what you would expect in a hotel. Rust over railings, the toilet seat looked so horrible. Someone had cleaned the plastic with metal brush, so scratches everywhere.
The hotel does not have provision for any meals other than breakfast. And the breakfast was extremely basic - bread, corn flakes and coffee/tea, with omelettes for non vegetarians.
Given all this, we felt that it was excessively priced, and not worth it at all. There are other heritage hotels cheaper and better maintained. And no wifi inside the room. Or perhaps it is just a bed and breakfast, and we expected too much.
However, I must say that the manager was courteous, and they are members of the Ashram so can help you visit the Ashram.
