It takes something or somewhere very special to give you "that" feeling... Villa della Pergola delivers that magical calmness, that sense of happiness that you can't quite put into words. From the moment we drove up the very narrow, windy driveway and were met by a most charming and informative gentleman who took our bags and gave us a lovely introduction on the history of the building and gardens, we felt at home. I don't quite know what it is... the sea air? The 140 year old Eucalyptus tree to remind us of home? The bygone era of the late 19th Century? I now understand why famous writers and musicians have found inspiration here. The gardens are mesmerizing and are worth a visit on their own, so beautiful... I would like to thank the present owners of this property for preserving the buildings and restoring the gardens, so that we "guests" can visit and appreciate the wonders on offer. Truly spectacular. In closing, you will find the beds of supreme comfort and the service of the staff to be extremely high. In nice weather, the pool area is fabulous, the breakfasts are faultless, and the restaurant is first class. I could go on and on, but there is only positives, so come and enjoy for yourself. Be charmed by this hotel and this lovely town (Alassio)!

What an Incredible experience to stay in the suite. Even simple things like setting up the terrace for us when we came back so we could enjoy the afternoon made the experience even better. Make sure you dine at the restaurant Nove and do the tasting menu with the wine pairing. The service is superb, as well as the food!

This is an exceptional hotel with a strong attention to detail. The rooms and public areas are perfect and authentic providing a strong connection to place. I doubt that there is a bad room and the full housekeeping service twice per day was great to keep everything in your antique filled room in order. Thoughtful touches range from an in room library of publications of relevance to the area and property to collections of artifacts that relate to previous guests or events. The gardens are stunning as is the view over the town from the two main buildings. The drive is precarious however a walk to the town is enjoyable, a taxi back at night is preferred to walking at 10 euro. Don't rent a big car to drive here (then why would you do that in Italy anyway). Walking also avoids the challenge of finding a park in Alassio town. The restaurant Nove is of the highest standard, I am unsure how it doesn't have a Michelin star. It has innovative and tasty food that is referenced to the local area and a great wine list. Some of the the ingredients come from their own gardens. Both food and wine represented good value. Staff were generally accommodating and pleasant and had a good knowledge of food and wine. Breakfast was also a treat and offered freshly squeezed juices, home made preserves beautiful fruit and cheese. Hot food was cooked to order. In all this is as good a small hotel as you could hope to find anywhere and is as good as any of the previous "Small luxury hotels of the world" that we have stayed at. If there was one thing I could change and this is being very picky, the music seemed like generic US chain hotel elevator music. I would have thought that music relevant to the area, classics or Italian opera may have been better. When you get down to that level of detail as feedback you know that it is close to perfection.

The Villa Della Pergola provides a retreat from the outside world and cossets you in comfort and luxury whilst being surrounded by beautiful gardens to wander through. Service is very discreet and professional. The suites in the Villas are a perfect mix of modern comforts and restoration of an historical building that is part of the history of Alassio. Breakfast on the terrace on a sunny morning is a memory that will last. The restaurant has a perfect setting in the main villa and provides Michelin star quality fine dining served by some of the most professional restaurant staff you will ever encounter. There is no need to ever leave the hotel and its grounds if you just want to relax, unwind and enjoy this escape from reality for a few days (although satellite TV and wi-fi are available is the world needs you!)

Villa Della Pergola was an exquisite experience from start to finish. The hotel and its botanical gardens are beautifully amended, and painstakingly restored to its 19th century glory.
The rooms are all beautiful, (we stayed in Silvia in the main villa) many with balconies overlooking a breathtaking cliff top view of the Ligurian sea. Dinner at the restaurant Nove was wonderful with multiple small but delicious courses and the wait staff were gracious and fun.
Breakfast the next morning on the outdoor terrace under the 200 year old eucalyptus tree was also top notch. All in all, felt pampered the whole time !
One beautiful experience !
