Beautiful Villa next to Porto do Mos Beach

We stayed here July 2017.The villa consists of about 8 rooms, either apartments or studios. We stayed in room 210. It had 2 lovely balconies and a sea view. The pool area is peaceful and secluded. The kitchen is well eqipped and rooms are cleaned daily.
The beach is a 5 minute walk away (down some steep steps) and in our opinion the best beach in Lagos. The town is a 30 minute walk away ( we didnt hire a car) and we walked this on many occasions despite temperatures being 30 degrees plus. You can easily call a taxi from reception and it costs approx 6 euros one way. There isnt a reception desk at the villa, however they are just a phonecall away and we had no problems.
The place was nice but the service was so so

Vila Mar Azul is location is away from the downtown area, which isn't bad if don't want to be downtown. However, on our arrival to our hotel there was no one there to help us check in. Another group of people had to call the reception desk, which was located at their sister hotel. Then, we waited for a good 20-30 minutes to get checked it. The staff member that came over basically forgot about us while she was helping the other group. But once we got to our room, it was nice and big. So that was at least a plus.
The next downfall for that hotel is public transportation. It's not the hotel's fault, but its location doesn't help it. On trip advisor it says it has "shuttle services," but it doesn't, which made it difficult getting early morning transportation. The public transportation in Lagos is not good, so renting a car might be the best. Anyway, we called the reception at 6:52am to get a taxi to the train station, we waited until 7:41am for the 1 cab to come and get us. And our train was leaving at 7:48am, it takes about 10-15 minutes to get to the train station.
I think if Vila Mar Azul (Sonol Hotels) had a small reception location at our hotel, it would have helped meet customer need's. Also, if they had the shuttle service they said they have on trip advisor, I would be rating this hotel much differently.
An absolute surprising little gem

We arrived in faro at about 1130pm, collected our hire car (enjoy broker cheap but at point of collection many extras review to follow)
Drove the 30 minutes or so to Lagos on the excellently clear signed motorway. Could do with lights but if you are tired make sure you have brought a sat nav.
Anyway after getting to the villa, we pushed the intercom button and were told someone would arrive shortly. About 5 mins later a gentleman arrived, covered the local area very quickly as we were obviously tired and left us to it. We stayed in room 208 btw.
The room is a studio, has a good sized spotless bathroom with shower only if that matters to you with complimentary toiletries and loo rolls so you don't need to bring them/buy from the supermarket.
The kitchen is well equipped although the fridge had a tendency to freeze the odd item at the back I guess it was a bit full. There is a two ring elec job and a breakfast bar/dinette.
Perfectly clean, with a toaster, coffee machine and kettle. (Bring a teabag or two and pick a bottle of milk up from a motorway service station (leite) and you can have a drink on arrival. And more importantly when you awake.
Place was cleaned every day, beach towels were in the room, a table chairs and parasol on the balcony although if you don't smoke our neighbours seemed to constantly it can be a bit smokey at times.
There is some construction work going on over the road but it's mildly disruptive and we were out most days.
There are numerous supermarkets in the area, don't waste your time with the little ones go straight to the intermarche.
Beach wise there is a little wonder about 3-400 metres away that we had a good few swims on and were clean again. We visited other beaches too, camillo, Dona ana, sagres.... etc but the one nearest was lovely and easily
Excelent hotel!

Villa Marazul is indeed a lovely place to stay. The villas are well maintained, clean and spacious. The kitchens are well equipped, the bathrooms are lovely and the beds - including the beds that double as couches are comfortable. The pool area with the sun loungers is perfect in the summer sun and there is a BBQ there to use also. The clean team clearly work very hard to keep everything looking very presentable. The villas are just a short walk from a brilliant beach - possibly the best in Lagos and there is plenty of parking at the villas. On a slightly more negative note, the check in process is very confusing - you have to go to the sister villa which is quite a way away and check in there. It's all very formal - to the point it may be a little off putting. The sister villa itself wasn't particularly easy to find. There is a pool, bar and restaurant there you can use also. The other thing was WiFi. I know if you're going on holiday and to the beach you shouldn't need wifi, but if you still need to keep up with your work emails or if you want to keep in touch with family or send photos, or anything like that... don't expect to do that here. We always look for places that say free wifi, just so we have that there to look up places to go, send photos home etc. Villa Marazul says it has wifi, and it does, it just very rarely works. You couldn't send photos, post anything on social media, download emails, send emails, send voice notes or make calls over a wifi provider like Whatsapp. You couldn't even use google a good amount of the time. We ended up choosing restaurants with free wifi for dinner so we could research good beaches and places in the area that we could visit the next day. That was our main disappointment. Everything else was great and when anything went wrong - eg. our toaster wasn't working on arrival - they very quickly bought us a new one which was helpful. I would recommend these villas, but they really should do something to improve their wifi if they're advertising that they have wifi.
