By the time you reach Marianske Lazne, you'll have spent a lot of train time in immediate proximity to fellow travelers; those you know and those you don't. Need a little space?
Villa Sonnenstrahl rents apartment suites for the price of a hotel room, surrounded by a beautiful private garden, fountain and shaded terrace with lounge chairs. Its location faces the well-known Esplanade Hotel Spa but offers more privacy.
Our suite had a room with a queen bed, a fully equipped kitchen that you could cook in (but we didn't) a formal living room with sofa, chairs, television and music, an up-to-date bathroom and also a WC room. It's all decorated in the period Italianate style of the city.
We planned to do some roots searching in the villages surrounding the city of Marianske Lazne, including photographing several cemeteries. Not the kind of thing that appears on tour lists. Herr Franz, the multilingual manager, found a young man to drive us. He charged an affordable, fair rate to drive us and wait patiently in his immaculate car which we dirtied up with sand and mud from tromping through the cemeteries. (Sigh)
But another highlight is the breakfast. I've attached a picture and keep in mind this is for two people, served in our living room. Fresh hard boiled eggs in egg cups, a pitcher of fresh orange juice and a whole pot of coffee with cream. Meats, breads, vegetables, fruit, yogurt, cereal and so on.
The Villa rate varies and sometimes breakfast is included, sometimes not. We paid 170 Euros for our night and it was well worth it.
There's a short cut from the back garden through a beautiful gate that takes you directly to the park by the Colunnade; much faster than the streets and sidewalks to the center of the city.
