Having looked at the photos on the Thompson website and seen the lovely pool overlooking the beach we were persuaded to book this hotel. Unfortunately on arriving we could see immediately that this was nothing like the photos on the website. There was no dedicated English Thompson rep based in the hotel but credit to the Austrian representative he tried his best to help resolve our situation. There was no welcome meeting to tell us anything about the hotel. The hotel states it has four restaurants but there is no choice where you wish to eat you are told which restaurant to eat in. We made a mistake the first night and were told that we could in future not eat in this restaurant. The staff in the restaurant that we ate in were very courteous but it was like eating in an underground garage and at breakfast the view was of guests getting ready to go to the beach etc. We paid extra for our room and it was located right over the pirate pool with a tree so was dark and dismal. The result of our situation was that we paid extra again to have a room overlooking the adult pool with glimpses of the beach. There are signs in many different languages saying that the pool is for adults but this ignored by both the lifeguards and the hotel. We discussed this with the Rep and the hotel informed us that the pool overlooking the beach was not for our use. There are signs in the hotel grounds saying that you are entering a different hotel and to go no further to use their facilities. This is a very large complex that is in effect split up into three separate hotels which is not clear from the website. Needless to say we would not return to this hotel.
Best Holiday Ever!!!

This was an amazing hotel in a lovely little resort. Biggest positive was the mini club team. Lead by Super Alex (The one and only) Lisaa, Nora, Dieter and Bufo. My kids were more sad to leave you lot than they were leaving the resort.
The hotel is spotlessly clean, the food was good and the pools were amazing but on the cold side.
Our room had a jacuzzi on the roof which was amazing.
Overall I can definitely recommend this hotel.
Zafiro, if you read this, The animation team need a bonus and pay rise!!
A long review to tell you it isn't half bad!

The newly names, but not new Zafiro Cala Mesquida Club is my families most recent place to stay in the lovely island of Majorca. I spent a long time researching and looking through Tripadvisor reviews and websites and in and out of travel agencies. We were staying with friends who were travelling on a different day and from a different airport, so spent some time looking at options. Before I start my review, please note that Viva Cala Mesquida resort is not the same hotel, although owned by the same people, The Zafiro Cala Mesquida Park, is the same hotel, but is over the road and is cheaper, but not as well equipped (there isn’t a kitchenette in the room I was told) This confused me and why they have three different names is a bit of a mystery as all it seemed to do is confuse things a little.
But what is the place like? Well, firstly, my first impression is that this isn’t a new hotel, it shows signs both good and bad of age. The trees and plants are well grown and large. It is really nice to have fully grown plants, palms and Cactus around the place. Sadly, there are also signs that were either the resort being old or the fact that we went end of the season. Some broken and loose tiles around the place, especially around the pools. The pirate ship pool had some pretty large looking cracks in the fibreglass slides. The entrance hall is grand and spotlessly clean (as was the rest of the Hotel, the cleaning staff were excellent) The staff at reception were great and all multilingual. Two of the staff were especially kind to me, initially, when booking in and also at one point when I thought I had mislaid my safe key and hire car key, they seemed very concerned and added a human touch that didn’t go unnoticed, thanks. They even shared a joke with me afterwards, which is never easy in a foreign language and very hard to get the tone of a joke well in a professional role.
We stayed half board plus, and the plus option (drinks included at meal times) was excellent. Not come across that before it was great. The food was one of the best buffet selections and quality we have come across. It was very well stocked and kept fresh. The table clearing staff were also very attentive. We did dine in the Ala-carte restaurant one night, which was farcical unfortunately as our booking and the booking of another table (of 13) had seemed to be a surprise to the staff. This lead to a very slow and busy service which was a massive shame, but credit none the less for managing to get an extra 21 people in and sort of looked after.
We had some excellent weather, so the unheated pools were just about bearable, we tried the indoor pool, which was very busy, but never made it to the smaller heated outdoor pools. The wet bubble was enough to keep our older kids happy all day (I did have a little dabble myself too) and the pirate pool, albeit with cracks suited my little one well. Lifeguards are a little too tolerant maybe, but pools were well staffed all the same. The Beach is beautiful and clear, but about half the time subject to some pretty strong currents.
Ants and flies! Ants in the rooms, we were half board and had some snacks out from the supermarket at lunchtimes, this meant that the ants came in their hundreds. The small fridge was jammed so we had to be careful what we did with items not kept in the fridge. We had a very amusing actual “ants in our pants” moment that happened. The room was cleaned well, the only way I think they were getting in was because our room door to the balcony didn’t quite close well. My best guess for how the little guys got in! Flies around the pool got very annoying at times, again not sure what could be done, but grr they struck just when I was dozing off a number of times!
The resort is mainly frequented by Germans, which was no problem for me at all, as I speak a little German and they seem possibly more civilised than the average Brit on holidays. They are however a little more likely to let their kids play unsupervised on play equipment. I found myself stepping in a number of times to stop a bunch of lads pulling the bouncy castle down on my 3-year-old daughter while she was playing and kicking a football around the play area with 25-30 kids milling around was also a little unwise. Be warned, please watch your kids while they play in the play area near the restaurant, There will be an accident soon, Zafiro, maybe even staff the place, it was a little wild, you will face problems with disgruntled guests I’m sure.
We chose this site as it was far from the busy towns, but nearby enough to get in our hire car and visit for the days. If you are looking for a busy thriving respot, GO ELSEWHERE. The beauty of the place is the quiet nature of the place. This will not be for everyone though. Please don’t grumble about that, the Hotel can’t do anything about the fact they are next to an area of natural beauty.
So far everything was good, but a little bit on the upper side of average for me (I was thinking of getting out a 3-star rating) however, all was saved by the excellent entertainment and animation team. This was end season and they were tired. But they were enthusiastic, hard working and never let it slip that they were two weeks away from a very well earned break. Super Alex, Boldie, Liisa, Dieter and Nora. The stars of the show as far as we can see. This is a family resort and these guys really made it for our family and the guys we were travelling with. Zafiro, if you hire these guys, please hold on to them, they are gold! From lovely comment about our Karaoke skills (Either actually impressed or very good actors) to letting me join the team as Bufo for the night. Thanks, you lads and lasses gained the review a whole star by yourself.
Of the Hotels we have stayed in, this is probably the one I am most likely to return to, but that is mostly down to the engaging entertainment team.
Unfortunately, we were not satisfied Viva - Zafiro Cala Mesquida

This was our third stay at Cala Mesquida Club, and our experience is, that the service level is decreased this time compared with September 2014 and September 2016.
We were three families staying in three different apartments. My husband and I stayed in a Royal Terrace Apartment and we had expected a lot from the spa. The first five days it fulfilled our expectations. The last two days the air temperature dropped to 22-23 degrees Celsius and we had relatively must rain. We would have loved to use a heated spa in that kind of weather. We asked the reception to repair it while we went for a long walk. When we came back to the hotel four hours later, the spa was still cold. Two times more that day we asked the reception to repair the spa but it stayed cold for the rest of our stay. The explanation from the reception was that the spa could not heat fully in cold and rainy weather. That seems strange when you can have heated spa pools outdoor in the winter in Norway! When we buy a room with a heated spa, we expect it to work.
We find it very unsatisfying that the spa pool not worked when we needed it most. We asked the reception for some kind of compensation but they did not understand our point of view.
Furthermore:
• Pool towels can only be changed in a very short period.
• Bottled water can earliest be taken from the cafeteria from 10.30 am. We were advised to buy water at the local supermarket, which is not a satisfactory attitude, when you pay more than EUR 8,000 for a week's stay.
• The pool bars did not open in the afternoon on a day when the weather cleared up at 2 pm.
• One of the restaurant's chefs asked me to be charged in Spanish instead of English. Unfortunately, I speak only Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, English, German and a little French. Sorry that I can only do some breaches in Spanish!
• When we traveled ten people together we would like to sit together at the meals, but we were told that it is not possible to reserve a table in the restaurant. There is only a table for ten people in the restaurant, and often it was occupied by four to five guests. We think this is a bad service.
Change of name but the same great service and hotel

This is our 5th Stay at the Zafiro Cala Mesquida Club/park (formerly Viva).and didn't doesn't disappoint ! Exceptionally clean rooms and well maintained grounds. The main pool has a bouncy inflatable dome, it is busy but not overcrowded and the lifeguards in attendance maintain good order. There is a great pirate pool for the small children and several other pools some of which over look the beautiful unspoilt beach of Cala Mesquida which provide a more laid back and tranquil vibe.
The Catering and Bar staff work tirelessly to provide a brilliant service. The buffet breakfast/lunch/ dinner are of a very high standard and is varied. The Babaloo bar provided an alternative to the buffet restaurants which provides waiter service for the lunchtime menu. All staff very polite and efficient.
A massive thank you to Super Alex and all the entertainment staff for their enthusiasm and professionalism with the day and evening entertainment programmes.
All-in-all another fabulous stay!.
