Excellent resort with best staff & awesome food like all Taj hotels...
Only downside is the ferry timings as one cant explore nightlife of Langkawi as last boat is scheduled for 7:15.
I am regretting going to Berjaya resort, should have directly to Taj Rebak,

This was our third visit to Langkawi so we wanted to stay somewhere different. In the past we had seen Rebak Island but assumed, wrongly, that is was one of the many remote islands that are used as private beaches by tour complains. This time we did our research and discovered Vivanta by Taj. We booked seven nights on the island, expecting isolation and limited facilities. Wrong again! It was the best decision we made and the best, most hospitable, hotel we have stayed during any visit to Langkawi.
Airport pick-up was arranged through email, and was very efficient. We were taken to Port Cenang where we waited for a short time for the scheduled shuttle to the island, exclusively for Vivanta guests and Marina "yachties". These run regularly throughout the day. The port itself offers perfect access to a supermarket/convenience stores (within ten minutes walk from the jetty) and a fifteen to twenty minutes walk to Cenang. There are local food stalls there too, and plenty of taxis. Transit time to/from the hotel is ten minutes.
On arrival at the marina we were transported to reception by electric golf cart which is the mode of transport used around the hotel grounds. This system is not only efficient but also quiet. Check-in was very slick.
The room was spacious, containing a king-size bed, and a large adjoining dressing area with double sinks, and three other separate rooms containing a shower, bath, and toilet. Lighting wasn't effective and needs significant improvement. Also, there is no door separating the bedroom from the dressing area and bathroom facilities, so at night if you need to use the facilities you will wake up everyone when you turn on the (dim) lights. Notwithstanding the strange layout this was a very cosy "home" for our first week on holiday. We also had a lovely patio with chairs and table to have morning coffee before heading for breakfast. The view of the sunrise was inspiring.
The hotel is set on a beach with a large freeform swimming pool. Sun loungers were plentiful and comfortable. Towels were always available and pool service friendly and efficient.
We only used the dining room in the evening twice. Both were beautifully presented and delicious. There is a fish bar which serves fresh catch at lunch. This seemed quite run down and had little ambience, so we didn't try it. There are a few bars on site, but we tended to use the beach bar (Lepak Bar) at Happy Hour (4-6PM). This bar then closes (except on Friday) and then Happy Hour moves to another bar. They could easily keep this beach bar open and upgrade the area to make it a real hub for outdoor socializing. As it stands, the bar and surrounds are in need of renovation: bar stools are crooked and not very comfortable, other seating is sparse and lighting poor. There is a lot of potential for that place to be a real hive of activity if a little investment is made to upgrade it.
Housekeeping, lead by the very polite, helpful and jovial Aynul, on the whole was very good. They were occasionally a little slow to clean the room (even with the "make up room" sign displayed) which was frustrating when you had just spent four or five hours out of the room. That said, they were very thorough and always on hand to bring you more complimentary water (an excellent touch considering you are in a remote island), mosquito coils, and anything else you need.
It was the breakfast that stole the show. Without exception they were spectacular. There was a large variety of Chinese, Malaysian, Indian, European and American fare; freshly prepared juices (carrot, apple and ginger was one of our favourites) and specialty coffees. This was all overseen by a wonderfully courteous and helpful staff who attended to your every need. Nirmal deserves special mention for his outstanding assistance, always smiling and always attentive.
For activities, there is kayaking, tennis, a large free form swimming pool and a touch of genius: nature trails and walks along which you can see hornbills, sea eagles, kingfishers, sunbirds, dragonflies, water monitors, monkeys and a host of other wildlife. This is a superb natural asset right on the hotel's doorstep. Top marks for making the most of it!
If you look closely enough, you can find fault with most things, but when you look at the bigger picture Vivanta by Taj, Rebak, is a real hidden gem. Yes, there are a few minor improvements that could make this place even better than it already is. It is perfect for couples, families and children. We will definitely be going back.

We booked 4 nights at the Taj.. as we we arrived we were informed that the block we were in had an electricity cut and would be back on in a few hours... a few hours later we still did not have electricity and no options were given to us but to wait.. We had to ask for a room change and reluctantly were given the room change. The customer service of most of the employees is not to a standard of a 5 star hotel, some did not understand english very well. When asked for booking a spa treatment they never got back to me. They came to our room on the first night to deliver us fruit at 10:30pm?. The rooms are quite old and need some maintenance... really not what I expected from a hotel chain such as Taj.

If you are looking for an action packed holiday with thrill rides & theme parks, busy shopping malls & trendy boutique, fast food outlets & glitzy bars, Kids' clubs & wild nightlife - Rebak is probably not for you!! The island's charm lies in the solitude, gently lapping waves, , white sand beach, swaying palms, tropical gardens & jungle backdrop- no crowds, no roads, no shops! All staff members are friendly & caring. Personal requirements & preference are catered for under the careful supervision of GM Mukherjee. The talented chefs offer a wide range of local, Indian & Western options on a very extensive menu. Rebak is a paradise retreat, recommended for couples seeking solitude & total relaxation. Congratulations Taj.

Stayed for a week in this nice private island resort. Our family of four had a two-bedroom suite with a "garden view" which was spacious, clean and adequately equipped.
The pool and the beach were always clean and quiet; we had no trouble getting lounge chairs even though there were some early morning poolside lounge chair squatters around, as there always is. The beach gets rocky during low tide, but that seems to be the case in most other beaches on Langkawi, too. And as it is a private island, it is a real private beach without any jet skis and banana boats, which was nice.
As other reviewers have noted the food in the restaurant is very good, though pricey. The cheapest main courses start from 35 MYR for the malay dishes and go up to 100+ MYR for the western stuff. The service in the restaurant was a bit variable and inconsistent. Breakfast was excellent with lots of malay/indian/chinese varities.
As for the boat timetables, we didn't have trouble making it to the last jetty at 7:45 PM after an early dinner in the main island and on one evening we were allowed to catch an even later boat meant only for personnel. Just ask nicely beforehand :)
In the main island side, there is a large'ish supermarket and a laundry (4.50 MYR / kg) just a couple hundred meters from the jetty in case you don't want to pay resort prices for minibar and laundry services.
All in all, we had a very enjoyable stay in Vivanta by Taj Rebak Island.
