What People are saying

2 nights

Ian G on 20/11/2017 08:55

It did not get off to a good start- on arrival I was struggling through the reception door with several cases and although I got eye contact with a member of staff he just walked past and offered no help. This hotel is essentially an attractive stately house used as a function venue with a prosaic functional business Hotel bolted onto the rear. The room I had was attractive but small. It did the job.The bar area is as soulless as an airport lounge with reasonable food of the type you would expect. Of greater concern is that my company had paid for the room and this was confirmed on arrival however on departure ‘Johnny’ advised that this now was not the case and that I would need to pay. Knowing it should be quick to solve I did this in the expectation of a quick resolution once both payments had been seen by the Hotel. 10 days later they are still saying that although the company did indeed pay I had not. I have now had to send a screen shot of my card statement showing the payment to them. So be warned!

Terrible! Do not stay!

No part of this romantic break was not under threat from this dreadful, dreadful hotel, only possitive is the way it looks. It is set in beautiful countryside and the ancient manner house is really handsome.

The staff are rude and rushed. Rolling their eyes is the norm. You get the feeling they are sixth formers waiting for the shift to end and their party to start rather than professionals happy to help. R#k in the spa is rude and would not let us in at 7:17pm because it closes at 8pm (we were told it closed at 8pm so got there in what we thought was good time) and we booked the hotel especially for the spa.
Then at the bar (and the 15 min wait) trying to get a bottel of presseco for the bath (to make up for the lack of spa). It was room temperature, either the fridge was not cold or it had just been restocked. "No problem " we thought we will just take an ice bucket. Cue L##y and B####a and their bararge of tutting and "no we don't have any, nothing we can do." Computer says no, seemed to some it up.
Feeling dejected and rejected we retreated back to our room. 31 in the manor - we paid more to get that room its apparently posh one. The room Key had stopped working...its no lie 10 min walk back to reception, and no it was not next to my phone, as getting away from my work phone was the plan of this trip so i had left it in the room!!
I then complained at reception and was given an ice bucket (why could the bar not!!) And a replacment prosecco.
We orded room service - the food was terrible - think a bad pub from the nineties. We had to eat it on the floor as no table was provided or present in the room.
The double bed was two singles pushed together...oh how romantic i feel like an 18 year old again, no i dont im a 32 year old with a neck ache from your rubbish bed.

Breakfast was terrible... true to form. Don't press 'white coffee' on the machine - there's no coffee programmed in for this function, only milk.

I have said a lot and I could go on and on. What a disaster of a place.

A stay of two halves

Checked into the hotel and we were allocated a room in Orchard Mews. Has to ask to be moved because the room wasn’t at all clean and clearly the previous occupant had had a dog with them. Windows dirty and something very nasty looking on the carpet. The second room was much better, but I don’t think the housekeeping staff can recognise a cobweb. Overall the hotel needs maintenance work. There are a lot of shabby areas with peeling paint and some ground works round and about needing attention.
The other side of the coin was The Old Hall where we attended a wedding. Loads of atmosphere with cosy fires on a cold winters day. Great Breakfast. Had a wonderful day at the wedding.
Would recommend upgrading and staying in the old part of the hotel.

Lots of room for improvment

Very let down..... 1 person on reception checking in everyone. So that took 20min. Got given my room keys so with 2 large bags and a cabin case I made my way to my room, go to use the key card to find it does not work, back to reception I go, bags and all. Once there I asked about an upgrade, was told yes they had bigger rooms avalible. I said I shall see what my standard room was like. Back to my room I go. Opened the door I was hit with what I can only discribe as 1950's old smoke/ fag musty smell. Was horrid, the chair in the room damaged. Not worth £109 of my hard worked for money. Back to recpetion I go for the upgrade to be told they now do not have any!!!! 5min before hand they did. Back to my room I go. Once there I read the spa information and thought I would enquire about a treatment. Rung the ext 3 times... no answer. Then all I heard was bang bang bang on doors, shouting in the halls, I had been put in a room in the middle of a group of tourists who were far from quite. Back to reception to change rooms. The smell and the noise I could not take. This was done with ease and they understood and swapped my room. Now this hotel has sections everywhere on its grounds. Nothing is linked up. I was told roughty were my new room was but in the pitch back dark, it took me and a few other lost people another 20min to find our rooms. No offer of help at reception to show us or help with heavy bags. My new rooms was great. Did not smell and no noise. Went to use the iron to find there was an iron board but not iron. After 2 calls to reception, house keeping brought one to me and 2 free drinks cards. Got ready and with a short walk in the cold and wet I reached the part of the hotel our do was at. They had set up a couple of tables at the back to use as our bar. They had no bottle opener and only accepted cash. At first would not accept my free drinks card but after the way things had bin, I put my foot down. Drinks were far more at this mobile bar with no bottle opener. 4 bottles of beer for £20 cash or if you walked through the halls to other bar it was 5 pints for £20. 9.30am, still in bed.. got a knock at the door... house keeping!!!!!! Really would not stay here again. Rooms not worth what I paid. Better treatment at a travel lodge.
