Beautiful accommodations

I recently planed a luncheon for a group at the Waystead Inn in Berlin, Maryland. The innkeeper Sara was wonderful she allowed everyone to see the rooms and the rooms were lovely. Each had a new modern bathroom and some beautiful antique amoires. The luncheon was fun and Sara accommodated 35 ladies. If I had a guest from out of town I would definitely recommend the Inn. And it is right down the street from downtown Berlin which is a lovely little town with lots of antiques and many unique shops.
Right place, right time!

We enjoyed our stay at this inn on Labor Day weekend. The room was spacious, nicely furnished and the bathroom was immaculate. We enjoyed sitting and reading on the deck out back. The breakfast included a fruit cup, juice, scrambled eggs and sausage and bacon, nicely presented. But the best thing for us was that we could walk from the Inn to a free Shakespeare performance in downtown Berlin on Sunday evening. It was so nice to walk there and back and not worry about parking.

Our two night visit to Waystead was a mix of pros and cons.
On the pro side: The property is pretty and has been nicely renovated. The room we stayed in was quite large. The mattress was comfortable. Both breakfasts were delicious and nicely presented.
On the con side: Our room's furnishings were a bit spare - the bed had no headboard and no cozy bedding (thin cotton blanket, sheets and pillowcases only). There was no clock in the room. The water pressure in the shower was non-existent. Our room was not adequately cleaned before we checked in - there were crumbs and dirt from a previous guest on the floor around the bed and on the rug. Finally, and most egregious, our room was not made up on the second day of our stay. When I called this to the attention of the innkeeper he stated that they do not make up rooms on days after the first. At the price paid for a stay here, I consider that unusual in the business and unacceptable. Most offensive is the fact that nowhere is this disclosed, neither in the reservation or checkin process. The way we learned of this "policy" was the nasty surprise we got when returned at the end of the second day and were greeted by an unmade bed, full wastebaskets, and, worst of all, still wet towels (only one towel per guest provided) for our second night showers. Needless to say, we won't be back.
Mothers Day

Mark and John did a phenomenal job on breakfast. I thought I was eating at a 5 star restaurant. My daughter and her friend stayed the night and had a wonderfully stay. Certainly the best Mothers Day breakfast I had in a long time. My daughter has the rest of the pics. All I can say is the plates were all clean by the time we were finished.
Lots of Memories Made!

Upon arrival we found Waystead Inn quaint and inviting. The door was locked but Mark, the owner, quickly greeted us and let us in. When we first walked in the smell of cigarettes was strong and the room seemed to have no heat on therefore it was pretty chilly. Mark assured us that it would be warm when we came down for breakfast in the morning. As me made our way upstairs to our room my husband and I began to wonder if maybe Mark had a little too much to drink before our arrival. When he stumbled and leaned against the wall it seemed to confirm our suspicions. I only mention this because for someone that doesn't drink it could make a difference in their stay.
Our suite BLUE BAY was nice...like going to grandma's house. The floor leaned slightly so it left a gap in the door which allowed light from the hall to shine through. That was solved by putting a towel over the top of the door and a pair of jeans across the bottom. The bedroom had one over sized chair with an ottoman. This presented a problem when we wanted to watch tv. You could lay in bed or turn the tv the opposite direction to face the one chair. I pushed the ottoman against the wall and sat on it. Not the most comfortable set up but it worked.
The bathroom had a pedestal sink with no place to set anything (makeup bag, curling iron etc.) and the shower was a nice size but unfortunately had mold in it (see photo)!
BREAKFAST was awesome!!. Each morning we had a beautiful assortment of fresh fruit (see photo). The first morning also included waffles and bacon. The bacon was worth finding out where it was purchased (Mark shared his secret). The second morning Mark cooked a cheese souffle that was appealing to both the eye and appetite.
Overall I would say we both enjoyed our stay and MARK helped make it memorable!!
