The best days are a thing not the past

The reviews were appealing. The property according to them had pedigree. And belonged a nationwide chain of hotels. Finding it was easy. It's located very close the the arterial road but is not at all noisy. Which is a plus. Of course parking if it's a large SUV is difficult. Most customers who book after seeing the pictures on the hotel site are in for a disappointment. The real Windsor lodge is a small building with 5-6 rooms. Which are the top of the line category. The delux and other rooms are in the annexe of the lodge. And the first and last impression is that they don't have any sense of history or quaintness about them. They are later and some very new regular hotel style construction. Some rooms are the wooden floor kinds with zero view and since they are along the corridor one can't even keep the curtains open to let the light in. The bathrooms are sub ordinary. With non functional shower head. And dirty tiles and commode. The bed linen is again not so clean and blankets are the fleeced kind which evoke no joy to sleep in.
The food is limited. But being an army zone one allows certain liniencies. But there are serious flaw and deficiencies. Baked vegetable or pasta doesn't get olives or peppers or broccoli or mushrooms. The menu is very limited. The breakfast is a slightly indifferent. It though our affair.
The dining space is a glass ceiling building which of course is a divine place to have breakfast on a rainy Or a sunny day.
There are no complimentary water bottles. No tea or coffee kit. A kettle is there but one has to ask for the supplies.
The hotel backward has a sloping valley of pine trees which builds such a heady smell of vegetation that mornings and evenings are wonderful. The view is good only from the main lodge part of which is a company guest house which of course is very well appointed.
The manager is the trusted employee of the owner of the property which is part of the welcome heritage chain of hotels.
It's the second welcome hotel I stayed in the last couple of years and a pattern seems to be emerging. The company which runs them has entered the hospitality business but there seems to be no sense of pride in it. It adds properties owned by private individuals and has it seems nothing K do with the management or standards.
That's why Windsor lodge may be a just decent place for stay but no one will ever check out with a wow factor. There are better in ranikhet with ideas and zeal to execute them.
Best place to stay

I went to Ranikhet with my family. We stayed at Welcomheritage Windsor lodge. We enjoyed our trip to the fullest. I like their services. They provide us best hospitality. I would like to go again for my next trip. I would recommend them to all my friends.
Not worthy of ITC brand

Run down facilities, musty smells, bugs in the bathrooms, poor infrastructure, no Internet, average food.
Clearly this property has seen its day and its owners have a couldn't care less attitude.
I was shocked to see it is an ITC affiliated hotel. It's a blotch on their reputation. Think of this as a 2 star motel!
About the only thing that worked for me were some of the staff members like Uday.
Ranikhet has modest accommodation choices, but you're better off exploring more historic lodges in the vicinity.
Advise to ITC - yank your brand and end the relationship.
Depends upon expectations!

Windsor Lodge is not a hotel but a lodge. The room are basic and the facilities are very run down. The staff is friendly and helpful. The food in the restaurant is great. But @ 8k-10k per night, the rates are far too high to justify the lodge. Ultimately lack of options requires one to pay what is asked.
We had no option but to stay at Ranikhet hence had to reside here. But if you have an option, then recommend that you look at better lodging probably at Ranikhet or Nainital. At best, keep expectations low to enjoy the place and scenery.

A decent Heritage hotel. Good location. Good food.
But, the Deluxe Room was a major disappointment. It was full of insects all the time & was just unbearable. The staff told us that all these insects were due to the wooden ceiling in the room.
In that case the management should immediately get it removed.
