Negative surprise for old customers

The White House was one of the best B&B in Swansea over many years. It served a wonderful breakfast prepared by a friendly staff. Unfortunately the owners changed a few weeks ago. Without pro-actively communicating it to the guests breakfast is not served any longer (without changing the price). A leaflet suggests to go to a near-by restaurant. The person at the check-in prefers to limit communication to an absolute minimum while browsing the Internet. This was my last visit @ The White House

Was booked into this hotel for work. I was made aware that this hotel was under new management by the owner herself. She was very helpful and i could see the effort she was putting into making the hotel better. My room was well furnished. The bathroom perhaps is on the list for improving but was clean and fully functioning. I was also given discount to a very stylish restaurant/bar a minute away for one of the best cooked breakfasts I have ever had. I would go back

Poor stay... broken toilet seat and shower door was off its hinges.. no Kitchen, understandable as going through refurbishment Manager does not give a dam... shame for who employs him. My advice would be employ someone who cares!
Dreadful- under new ownership dont be fooled by older reviews

The hotel is under new ownership so do not be fooled by older reviews, it has gone downhill like an avalanche. The room was awful and has an overpowering smell of damp and looked like it had been furnished from a bring and buy sale.Sadly was not good value for money either.
Run down hotel needing refurbishment: not good value

My wife and I booked in at The White House for 3 nights and stayed only 2. Here's why. On arrival, on Tuesday 22nd August 2017 at about 3 p.m., we learned that this hotel had new owners, Cambria Operations Ltd., a private building company owned by Lloyd and Marta Smith. They had taken it over only 4 days earlier. We were told that we could not have breakfast in the hotel, as the kitchen was being refurbished, so we were given a rebate of £5 per head and told that we could have breakfast with a 25 percent discount and free coffee at a nearby cafe. This cafe had an idiosyncratic menu in which the only bread available was sourdough bread and the nearest equivalent to a full Welsh breakfast cost £7, which was not covered by the rebate.
We had to park some 300 yards away. Street parking here is difficult during shop and office hours, but OK in the evening. We stayed in Room 4, which would have been the quiet room requested had it not been for an annoying drip, drip, drip which woke me up in the small hours (blocked gutter ?). It was a "family" room in that it had an additional, single, bed, but not a lot of room. There was just one armchair and no upright or other chair and no desk. The bathroom was small and had only a shower. The bath mat was wet, obviously not having been changed. There was only one drinking glass. The hot tap at the basin was stiff, the shower drained poorly and the toilet seat was loose, having lost a fixing. There was mould at the edges of the shower and the shower door seal had parted company with its groove. I could not get the shower hot enough for long. The bedside lamps did not give off enough light for reading in bed. In the evening, we found that the TV did not work (no signal), but the Smiths (the owners) were not in the hotel and had left no contact number. This was also a problem for another guest, who had accidentally locked himself out of his room. The latter problem was solved, when another guest found that the cleaner had left a master key in her room. After a long time and much difficulty, the owners were contacted and Marta fixed the TV problem very simply. We learned the following day that the owners had been called away in an emergency and that the phone had not been switched through because the relevant telephone contract had expired. Thus far, we had a lot of sympathy for the new owners, but the following night I was again woken up in the night by the same drip, drip, drip. We could have been moved to a bigger room, but this would get traffic noise. Anyhow, we had had enough by this time and checked out, asking for a refund of £119, representing the third night plus £25 per night in compensation. We got only £79 for the missed night, but at least we retained the £10 taken off previously for the missed breakfast.
The new owners have plans to provide parking for 4 cars and to refurbish the whole hotel. However, there is the difficulty of room size. In particular, Room 1 is extremely small, even for one person. One wonders how the hotel managed to obtain 4 stars from the Welsh Tourist Board. Maybe it's because the room was well equipped with safe, iron, hair dryer and a hospitality tray that included biscuits. Anyhow, my advice, for the present, is to stay away, as this hotel, run down by the previous owners, does not represent good value for money at the £79 per night that we paid. Perhaps things will improve by summer 2018.
