Needs to be updated/serviced
UPMiGalon 20/11/2017 20:50We stayed at this hotel a few years ago and there was some issues with the king/whirlpool suite. Apparently they have not serviced/updated the rooms because there was the same issues now as there was then. The fireplace doesn't work (the girl at the front desk actually told us it didn't work)???. The whirlpool is not impressive. there's light switches (or switches to something) that don't work. just disappointing when i pay for a whirlpool/fireplace suite and neither one of the extras work well. our room was on the main floor only a few doors down from the front lobby, so i don't know what the other rooms are like - but if you have long hair be prepared to take a while to rinse your shampoo out! the low economy shower heads work well for the hotel, but not for the guest! and the mattresses are super soft, and not in a good way! THE PROS: the Hotel is clean. The breakfast is sufficient. Didn't use the pool area. It's a nice hotel in a great location next to the Fox River Mall. they just need to get some serious maintenance/upgrades done.
Wingate - Appleton, WI - an oasis in the concrete jungle.
601neillgon 20/11/2017 19:58On my first overnight visit to Appleton, WI, I found a great spot relatively close to the airport where guests to the area will find both tranquility and access to the local power center.
4-10 nights a year here
Alan Jon 20/11/2017 19:41This is a fine place to stay. They seem to keep it in good shape. Please continue to upgrade mattresses as they wear out and inspect all rooms for maintenance items weekly.
Avoid the 1st floor room by the elevators and lobby!
Stacie Mon 13/11/2017 22:50We booked this hotel due to it being walking distance to the Timber Rattlers stadium. We booked our room through Orbitz, which gave us a cheaper rate than booking through the hotel directly, but I will never do that again. We stayed Saturday night and Sunday night. On Saturday, there was a wedding party there. They all congregated in the hotel lobby/breakfast room, which is just down the hall from our room by the elevators. The wedding party was super loud, and after a good hour of listening to people yell and whatnot, my husband went to the front desk to complain. The guy at the desk, who was a complete jerk, said he would get them out of the lobby. An hour later, it was even louder and we could not sleep. I called the front desk to complain, and the jerk guy said my husband already complained, and he was working on getting the wedding party out of there. When my husband went back down there, the jerk guy was selling beer to the wedding party, so there was no effort to quiet anyone down, and my day spent at the Donald Driver softball game was ruined because I got ZERO sleep and was crabby as hell. My mom and brother offered to switch rooms with us, but they didn't get any sleep either on the second floor since their toilet wouldn't stop running all night. Maintenance couldn't fix the problem. All four of us ended up switching rooms, but then my mom got another room with a toilet that wouldn't stop running. At check out, I asked for some compensation for our crappy stay, and the lady at the front desk said she couldn't do anything since I booked through a third party. I left after that, but she did offer my husband some rewards points to stay at a Wyndam hotel for a free night, which turned into another fiasco that we are still dealing with (see my review for the Days Inn in Joplin, MO). Bottom line, there is no way I would ever stay at this place ever again. Such a miserable experience for a weekend that I was really excited for.
Generous Upgrades
A5404MCpatson 08/11/2017 22:13We brought my granddaughter to a play in Appleton. Wingate made our weekend by giving us an early check in to get ready. In addition, we were offered an upgrade with a whirlpool tub. My granddaughter was in heaven. We all loved the room!
