Fishing lessons

First rate fishing teachers that are proffesinal. The setting and amenities are 1st class with both camping and caravans facilities. The pub is warm and welcoming. With a log burner to die for.it has regular weekend end functions and the staff are amazing, and the breakfast in the pub or delivered to your tent / caravan is fantastic value for money and very very tasty.

Disappointing

Michael D on 21/09/2017 15:38

We stayed here for 2 nights in September with our friends (who had their 2 children with them,) having stayed here before a few years ago, which was a fantastic stay and so we were eager to return.

On arrival we were greeted by a lovely lady called Sally who was very polite and explained everything clearly about the site and answered all the questions we had. We were then shown to our separate pitches (next to each other as requested.)

Sally did mention on arrival that the pitches we had booked were a little wet due to recent poor weather which is totally understandable, however they were far from wet, they were saturated and looked like marsh land. I understand how this is beyond the sites control but a bit of politeness in phoning us prior to our arrival to warn us or being given the option to go into the upper field wouldn't have gone a miss.

So, night 1, at 21:00 2 groups arrived and pitched next to us and proceeded to play music until 2am. We were informed that the site is patrolled throughout the night, but this was obviously not the case. We were also told about reducing noise levels beyond 22:00 which we respected whilst other did not. The same group also turned Wyreside Lakes Fishery into Jamaica by filling the ambient air with the pungent smell of cannabis.

The next morning I made my way to the reception to inform management about the drug and noise issue. Again I spoke to Sally who was very apologetic and assured us that the situation would be resolved.

The smell of cannabis was still present through out the day. Unacceptable when children are around and having challenged management about the problem.

Night 2 was just as bad, so bad in fact I began to get high as a kite and we were pitched about 50 meters away. I had come to the realisation that my request to have the issue resolved had been ignored. That same night also all hell had broken lose upon the site, people were fighting (which I reported to reception,) fireworks were launching, noise from the club house at 1:00am was unacceptable with the howls and singing of drunken punters. Not something suitable for a family campsite I would suggest.

It would seem to me that some rules do not apply to regular visitors on the campsite or they have their favourites.

Our experience here (and I speak for 4 people,) was poor and we will sadly not be returning. However. The site is immaculate and is probably one of the most cleanest we have visited, the grounds are also stunning and good for walking.

The site in my opinion, is dedicated to fishing, followed by caravans with people camping coming last. I do not recommend that this as a family site until the anti-social behaviour is addressed and everyone staying is treated equally, albeit there is a play-area and a clubhouse.

Fab Time Had

stayed here at the weekend, lovely site, clean, well maintained, and the staff very friendly. We eat in the clubhouse on the Saturday night and the food was excellent, Gammon chips eggs salad and coleslaw and also had the Scampi nice big portions and was very filling. Plenty of choices on the drinks. Shower and Toilet areas very clean. Had an excellent weekend.

Surprised

Orignally booked as a little treat for my partner who enjoys fishing. Thought I'd come along with the children too, our first ever camping experience, which I was very wary of. Stayed in the pod this time as honestly expected to hate it but on a mission to invest in all the proper camping gear and will be back. We didn't want to come home at all.

Camping break

Stayed for a couple of nights camping.
Spotlessly clean site with very good facilities for kids.
Location is well set up as a fishing venue but serves as a great venue for camping.
Friendly helpful staff never far away and make it a great spot for kids and adults alike.
Quiet on-site bar, food available at set times, and a well-stocked shop selling essentials as well as fishing tackle for the fishermen.
Visited twice now and the standards are obviously maintained as the norm.
Highly recommended.
