What People are saying

great bar and caves

beeginger63 on 14/11/2017 21:51

we were staying just a couple of doors down the road and visited Xtabi for a drink and to see the caves. we were not disappointed, staff were great, amazing view and swimming, caves were awesome. we ended up eating there too, inc conch burger and steak tips.
our family all ended up visiting later in the week as the sea was slightly calmer there because the resort is set back a little.
great snorkeling place

OK one night to the cliffs

We stayed one night at Xtabi on Sept 30th prior to moving to the beach the next day. It was quiet. We were the only people staying cliff side. We stayed in Cottage 2. It was clean and comfortable inside. The outside space seemed to be a bit less than loved. The outdoor furniture has seen better days, the patio hadn’t seen a broom in some time so hanging out on the cliff was a bit disappointing. It felt like they were not ready for guests in general. The accommodations resort-wide looked like they could use a sprucing up, some paint here and there and it could be the way it must have been a number of years ago.
We had dined here for lunch on our first trip to Negril back in ’07 and again for dinner, in ’12. So, we just figured we would stay put and hang at Xtabi for our one night. We settled in after a quick check in, and headed to the bar for drinks. Nice bar. There were a few folks around who seemed to be spending time on the cliffs. Drinks were great, the view nice and the ceiling fans welcomed. We wandered around the grounds on both sides of the resort. Enjoyed heading into the caves. Marveled at what must have been in by-gone years.
We decided to break up our dining for the evening and headed back to the bar for appetizers and drinks. The food was good. We had the Conch Fritters and Lobster Cocktail and they were excellent. We headed back to our cottage. It was quiet and so peaceful. Later on, we headed back for dinner. It was a rainy night so dining was not under the stars. We were seated on the veranda but it was so still and hot, we opted to head back to the bar, those fans were definitely appreciated. We had a great meal. We both had lobster.
The AC worked great. The shower was fine. No complaints with the room, really. We did not have any issues with the linens. The bathroom was roomy. The outdoor shower, while not all that private as it overlooks the road was nice and clean. It was beyond quiet. We were informed by the staff that the restaurant and bar would be closing the next day as there were no other guests staying at the resort. So, after a decent night’s sleep, the bed was nice to look at but was not the best mattress, we walked around the grounds some and with nothing available breakfast wise we decided to head over to the beach earlier than we had planned. One of the staff kindly located a coffee pot for us and delivered it to our cottage so we could have a cup to start our day. The cottage was cute and we liked the double doors opening onto the veranda. If I was staying there for a week it would have been a challenge to really get comfortable as there is little storage.
I do not know if I would head back to this location for a stay. I do appreciate that they would welcome us for one night when other places had a minimum of two or more nights, but I just felt that in many ways the resort has seen better days and for their price point we could do better. The place just seems to be kind of been neglected. I get rustic chic but Xtabi just seemed to have brought the place up to a point and has kept it going without keeping up. While we love that Negril offers us the chance to have a cliff stay and a beach stay I hope that Xtabi can bring their product up a notch. We stayed at Cathca last year and it was overall a better product as a number of other places do for not much more cost. Next time we will do a place that we will need to stay more than one night so that we can have a customer ready venue. Wish it could have been better, overall.

Purely the most beautiful views

We spent 4 days here after Montego Bay. Definitely laid back. No television, slow but free internet in the restaurant. The stairs to the caves were slippery, and full of crabs, so we didn’t get to go inside.

The hotel was small but cute. We had cottage 6. Not the best location. It was right ne t to the restaurant/bar so not enough privacy for my liking. Since there were no curtains on the double doors, we were always thinking someone would just stop by on our little patio.

The bathroom was outdoors. Connected to the room, but beside the front door. The wall was pretty high, but if someone were on the front doorstep they could definitely peek at you while showering. Me and my husband took turns watching the door when the other was washing.

But all in all I liked it. And it was just a 4 minute ride to Ricks Cafe and 3 Dives was next door! Bar prices were ok. I drink cognac and was pleased to have it (jamaica is noon for its rum, and most places didn’t have cognac). It cost $6 per shot. Red stripes were $3.25.

Better places to stay than here

Stayed here for our honeymoon Oct 3rd-Oct 7th. The view is amazing, but most of the cliff side places have this view. We stayed in cottage 6, which has A/C, but is right next to the bar and the outdoor shower even faces the dining area. New huts are going up next to it at 3 Dives, so the lattice that's in place for privacy won't work once they open. It's also loud due to being close to the road. The bed was the worst that I've ever slept in!!! I couldn't wait to leave by day 2 because it was so miserable not sleeping. There aren't curtains to block out any of the light as well. The towels are stained and feel like sand paper. The coffee every morning was $4.44USD for 2 cups. The A/C thankfully worked well and there was a new refrigerator. I understand Xtabi is cheaper than other places, so you get what you pay for here. They didn't even bother to clean it before we arrived or plug in the fridge. I question if the sheets were even clean. There were cobwebs even hanging off the toilet paper holder and speaking of that, they never restocked it in the entire tire we were there!! I finally got a roll out of the women's bathroom at the restaurant because the office seem to close early. But I shouldn't have needed to ask. The day we arrived we did have a delicious burger, but one morning while drinking coffee huge roaches were crawling everywhere. Our server kept trying to step on them, but those guys are fast! I realize it's the tropics, but we went to several local places and didn't see any. After that I didn't eat anything else there. Overall it's an uncomfortable stay with the dirty room, awful bed, and nasty old towels. Spend a couple bucks more and stay anywhere else. Their only redeeming quality was their staff who were wonderful! We had a great time talking with them. Shout out to Michael and Devon! Pay a little to go see the caves. That's worth it, but don't stay here until they at least upgrade their beds and towels and clean the pool!

Stopped here for a drink and swim

Mum_of_two_10 on 03/10/2017 12:22

We were in Jamaica for a wedding and arranged to meet at Xtabi cliff resort for a gathering, drink and swim. Lovely spot as you can jump into the water and dry off on the decking area. We didn't try the food because we weren't hungry but saw some being brought out and it looked good. Enjoyed a good few hours there and would go back for food.
