What People are saying

Fantastic Hotel

Frank W on 15/11/2017 22:17

Great hotel with fantastic staff. Booked a sea view room and whilst it was a bit of a walk it did not disappoint with great views and a fab layout with large tub in the room.
Pablo the manager was most engaging on the gala night and we spent an interesting time speaking to him. Hope your trip to Edinburgh goes well at Christmas.
Overall a great place to stay and only a short 30 min walk to the marina and town or use the train from just outside the hotel.
Hired a motor bike and used the underground secure car park at night
Somewhere i would happily return to

Great Hotel, a pity about the wastelands surrounding Lagos

Colin W on 07/11/2017 09:39

The hotel with it's no children policy provided a lovely environment with attentive staff and good food to make the stay in the hotel an excellent one. However the long beaches or the mini train tram should have provided a pleasant route into the town of Lagos, unfortunately the wasteland between the road and the beach was in places no more than a dumping ground for builders rumble and the like with the road into Lagos having many derelict and graffiti covered buildings along it's route this was echoed once you left the main streets in the town itself.

Absolutely lovely hotel

We had the most relaxing week at this lovely hotel in October 2017. The hotel staff members are friendly and helpful. We had a room on the first floor with a sea view. It was relaxing to listen to the sea waves at nights and the sunrise view from our room was spectacular. The room was clean, cosy and modern with a very comfortable bed and fantastic rain shower. We used the bath once just to try it out. It was fun. We arrived to a courtesy bottle of wine in our room and also received another bottle of wine plus fruit and a card for my husband's birthday.
The hotel is directly opposite the most amazing beach of soft golden sand that just stretches on and on. We enjoyed lazy days on the beach and there are two beach bars/ restaurants for lunch and cocktails. The hotel has two good sized outdoor pools and an indoor pool plus a gym and spa. My husband used the gym most days and found the equipment suitable for his workout.
We enjoyed the hotel food. Breakfast was excellent with a very wide range and we liked that we didn't have to rush down as it was served up until 10.30am. We also enjoyed the evening meals, again a good range of tasty food with something for even the fussiest of eaters. We thought that although the restaurant staff were lovely people, they require better organisation and need to provide a swifter response to need. There was one occasion when they seated us and then gave the table to another couple when we got up to get our food. This shouldn't have happened and it caused a bit of a kerfuffle. The issue was resolved but it wasn't a nice experience for us or the other couple and the restaurant staff member involved did not apologise, instead he left the confusion for his colleague to sort out. That being said, all our other mealtimes were enjoyable.
Lagos the nearby resort is fabulous with lots of interesting shops, eateries and a beautiful harbour. A truly lovely place to spend your days. Transport is regular. We travelled on the tram into Lagos but it is a walkable distance. We took the train into Portimao and Albufeira for day trips. The receptionist at the hotel was very helpful with train timetables and directions. We can't fault the reception staff, the TUI staff or the cleaning service. All were good and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and would definitely return to this hotel. It was our first visit to Portugal and we loved it.

A missed opportunity

I was really looking forward to staying at this hotel and while it is a decent place, it is just a few points shy of being a great hotel.

Some areas of the hotel look a little tired. The carpets in the hallways where the rooms are appear heavily stained in places. We stayed in one of the suites - spotless and very stylish. My only comment would be is that there is a lounge room which has a sofa and two chairs. There is also a TV and two small balconies. However there is a fridge plonked on the floor with a piece of hardboard on top and a kettle on top of that. The walls are blank and the room just feels like an after thought.

The food is OK. Not a huge amount of choice. The food is never served hot. It is in drums which had lids which were constantly being opened so the food never retained any heat. The service is hit and miss. Some of the staff worked really hard - others seemed a bit indifferent. We always sat on the balcony area. One morning I saw one member of staff constantly walking past tables that had been vacated and needed clearing. However they never made any effort to clear them. There were napkins on the ground and scraps of food but the same staff member ignored that as well. That isn't really what I expect from any hotel but especially not one of that standard.

Around the pool area there are loose paving flags and decking so be careful when wandering around. These areas are again kept spotless and staff are friendly.

Definitely visit the A La Carte restaurant. The food and service are fabulous. The furniture is very bland and looks like it is from a cheap café so it doesn't really compliment the standard of hotel.

All in all, this hotel offers plenty but does need to up its game!

A relaxing holiday!

We had an enjoyable week long stay at the Sensimar Lagos. The hotel staff are amazing, very attentive, helpful, courteous and polite and nothing is too much trouble. Our room overlooked the pool and sea so had lovely views, especially early mornings with the sunrise over the sea and in the evenings, with the changing lights, a feature of the hotel which give a lovely warm ambience. The hotel also enjoys beautiful sea views from the restaurant and lobby and the golden sandy beach which is accessed across the road at the back of the hotel is truly beautiful. The restaurant buffet food was plentiful both at breakfast and in the evening and was varied and of good quality. We weren't too spoilt for choice at lunchtime unfortunately with only the poolside snack bar and restaurant menu to go on - if this had also been buffet, it would have given a wider more varied choice of food which is normally the case in a 5* hotel. There are other areas which need to be addressed. The carpeted areas of the communal corridors have visible bleach marks (not from the sun as mentioned in previous reviews but bottled bleach - the cleaners possibly?); by the poolside snack bar and pool, there are areas of dry/dead patchy grass, weeds growing in between slabs, overgrown and very dry shrubs/plants, the odd broken decking and loose slabs - in all, not a pretty sight. We tried to book treatments in the spa but were told that only one therapist was working that week and she was fully booked which was disappointing. Having said all that, we did enjoy a very relaxing stay thanks to exceptionally hard working staff not to mention the Thomson Reps who made our stay very relaxing.
