High on a hill

Helen C on 01/11/2017 17:28

This hotel is really lovely. Very clean, fantastic views, friendly staff and owners. It is up on a hill, so if you don't have a car then you need to be fit. There is a goat track which we used and after a few days got used to it.

Very nice.

We stayed here from the 1st - 14th September and really enjoyed it, we had a view of the sea from our room, not one of the best I think but it was still nice enough, the room had a fridge, small 2 ring hob and kettle, which is enough when you pay for self catering. We used the pool most days, having brunch which was cooked and served by the wonderful Yiannis, that man never stops!! He did have help from Dimitri for about a week and half he was very funny. We paid extra for the safe & air con. The hotel is quite a walk into the main road of Pefkos but we enjoy walking so didn't bother us, and there was a lovely old couple staying at Ziakis too, they must have been well into their 70s and they used to walk into the town and get a taxi back up!! We had a lovely holiday although I do think it has got a bit expensive, we will return again. Oh and don't forget to have a trip on the glass bottom boat it was brilliant, had a right laugh!

Fantastic Holiday

Stayed at Ziakis Hotel/Apartments 13th – 27th September 2017

We had a sea view room (324) and were extremely happy with the room and the view, breakfast on the balcony and sunsets are well worth the money for a sea view room. We paid for the safe and air conditioning for the fortnight – well worth the money as the first week the temperatures were in the high 30C’s. Air conditioning is 55€ per week and the safe is 20€ per week.

The room has two large single beds pushed together as a double bed, wardrobe (with plenty of hangers) and storage draws for clothes, bedside tables with a draw and space to store clothes. There is a dressing room table with a large mirror (also a couple of draws there for clothes storage). The bathroom is better than average with the shower being part of the bath; as usual the shower is hand held but overcome that with using your own stick on shower holder. The kitchen has a fridge/freezer, kettle and a 2 ring cooker (no toaster – we take our own cheap £5 toaster with us), there are 2 of everything (cutlery, mugs, glasses etc.). Rooms are cleaned every day except Sundays and towels and bedding changed every other day.

Pool area is fine and there were plenty of sunbeds when we were there (unfortunately people still put out towels “reserving” beds but it seems you get these sad British people wherever you go these days). Yannis runs the pool bar which serves food but closes at 5pm he also runs the evening bar – very nice man who works incredibly hard. The owners, we found, were great and I’m not sure where the reviews come from that say the older lady was unhelpful – we found her very helpful and her English is good.

It should be noted that it is a 20 minute plus downhill walk into Pefkos and the 5€ (6€ with a tip) taxi ride back at night is the best money you will ever spend. We tried the infamous goat track route a couple of times in the day and no way would we walk that in the dark – it is what it says “a goat track”. We found it easier to turn left out of the hotel and then follow the road down to “bakery hill”

Would we visit Pefkos again? You bet we will. Probably in 2019 and this time we would stay closer to the main area (not up the “mountain”)

Relaxing Apartments

TinaWestMidlands on 05/10/2017 21:19

We recently stayed here and enjoyed every second. We were lucky enough to have an apartment which looked directly over the bay. It is basic, but spotlessly clean. Agree with previous reviews that if there was food in the evening it would add that extra special touch and atmosphere. Having said that it's not a far walk down to pefkos where there are many restaurants to choose from. Definitely worth walking the 3 miles to Lindos or jumping on the bus. Amazing little village. Would definitely return.

Great Stay

Stayed from Sept8th till 22nd

Arrived late on a Friday, check in smooth apart from an impatient other traveller but that's not the hotels fault
Shown to our rooms quick, thank god the bar and shop were still open. We dumped our bags and grabbed a well earned beer and some bits and bobs from the shop.
We meet Yanni in the bar he was lovely and remained so throughout our stay. Could not really examine where we were till the next day.
Good first nights sleep, peaceful, no problems but glad we paid for air conditioning. Next day we found the room more than adequate but only got a part sea view after we paid extra for a sea one.
Didn't complain as I couldn't be bothered so we made do.
We were overlooked by other rooms but for most of our stay we were out and about.
Pool area good, great views, good little pool side cafe run by Yanni again, this man works so hard every day attending the cafe and bar at night and always lovely and friendly ate here a few times for lunch and he never disappointed us.
Yes, very steep up and down to the hotel.
Turn left up the hill to the main road and walk down into the town from there with stunning views past a lovely bakery or right then right again but easily knocks 10 mins off if you go down the goat path which is very rocky underfoot but we got used to it. Don't try in heels. Turn right after the white bench onto the goat track. We walked most of the time but by the end of our 2 weeks a taxi required to go uphill from town. Ate at some amazing restaurants with Dapapa and Kyma being my favs just look them up. Some great trips out to Lindos and Lardos (Friday nights best Greek night whole village get involved). Less than 10e each way by taxi there is a bus service but we had evening out only. Great Day trip to Rhodes one day, mini bus trip booked at the reception which cost 8e each, each way picked up at 9am came back from Rhodes at 5:30pm arrived back at hotel 6:30 ... well worth seeing only 1 hr to get there.
You will see the Shiny cross on the hill this is so worth a visit and its near the hotel
Go left up towards the main road right towards Lindos down the main road as the road starts to go down hill you will see the many steps on your right it's well signed.
Nearly 300 steps to the top it has a hand rail and Best done very early or later when cooler, so worth the climb
We really enjoyed our time in Pefkos and surrounded area , St Thomas Beach and Kavos our favourite didn't do Lee Beach looked very busy. There is an amazing Snack Shack on Plakia beach next one along from St Thomas , lovely snacks and drinks very reasonable do try the Yogurt fruit and honey get loads for your money
All in all loved our Stay at Ziakis is a great base run by a lovely family.
Watch out for the Goats.

I found joining the Facebook site Friends of Pefkos very helpful, any information or advice is easily found on there if you post a question you are soon answered.

Enjoy your stay.
