Pokaran is not a place you go just for fun. Therefore, not many visitors would be expected. Tourism is trying to grow in this small town. This Fort property is managed as a hotel, by the owners only. They also live in one part of the same fort. The fort is well maintained, but could have been better. Maybe, because I was there in the off season. But still, a guest is a guest, any time of the year. The rooms are of normal size, barring a few suits. Bathrooms were okay. Shower water at that time did not have a good flow. They had a tv in the room, but one couldn't watch it from the bed. Had to sit on an uncomfortable chair. That's not desirable. Food was okay. Yes, local cuisine was on the menu. AC, could not be controlled from inside the house. So definitively some shortcomings. They can surely manage it better. Service was good and in line with the Rajasthani tradition.

The Pokhran is now well known name for Indians as in May 1974 and again in May 1998 atomic fusion was tested by India exclusively developed by our own scientists.
It is situated deep inside Thar desert in a not much populated area The city is pious for Hindus, jains and Muslims
Its is located at about 175 km from Jodhpur and aa2 Km from Jaisalmer on national high way linking these towns. The place is a trading centre for Black Salt and Multani Mitti (mined in nearby area)
We visited the fort enroute while going to Jaisalmer from Jodhpur
This beautiful fort was built in 14th century and part of it has been converted into private resort/ palace hotel and remaining part is having museum with collection of arms ,contemporary articles.
Incidentally the official guide of the fort(as a part of ticket we purchased ) was quite interesting and good photographer.and quite enthusiastic to show the places.Too willing to render his photography services which he claims to have provided to some film stars and teams shooting at Pokhran fort.
The heritage hotel is also nicely maintained and very popular with Non Indian tourists who comes in group to enjoy the place and have a feel of Thar culture in their own way.
Visit the entire fort along with hotel portion .
The fort and palace hotel have different tickets but enjoy both for unforgettable memories.
One of our outstanding visits in India
We thoroughly enjoyed every second.
The Junagadh Fort is a must see ....and please do the wonderful camel farm as a bonus from there. This will fill up a lovely day with lots of memories to save in the heart
On the way from Jodhpur to Jaisalmer, we did a short stop there, more for the driver than for me. A very little fort, with only few local people inside and small exhibitions about weapons, miniature-paintings and clothes. Is not bad, but definitely not a place you would spend hours there. If you stay in the hotel, take cash with you. I saw 4-5 ATM in the village, but all were closed.
