What People are saying
No A/C, noise, and horrible wifi make for a terrible hotel
Sebastian Fon 30/07/2017 22:58I only write reviews when I really care about people going somewhere or staying away from somewhere. This is a case of the latter. I have traveled to many places and stayed in many hotels. So far, this is one of the worst.
When we got to the hotel we were met by a dull receptionist - already a bad sign.
But that wasn't bad compared to how bad the room itself was. The suite had no air conditioning, which is ridiculous given that temperatures reach 35 degrees Celsius (95 degrees Fahrenheit) in Berlin during the summer. Given the lack of air conditioning in the room, we were forced to open the windows. This was also horrible given that the room faces an alley where workers take breaks and take out the trash. The noise coming from this alley at early hours combined with the lack of air conditioning makes sleep extremely difficult. The shower is extremely uncomfortable and lacks privacy given that workers take their breaks about 1 meter (3 feet) away from the window next to the shower. Also, for four days in a room for three people we had to make do with one tiny shampoo bottle and one tiny soap because whoever cleaned the rooms didn't bother to change it (I tried going to the reception to see if I could get some more shampoo and soap, but the reception closes at night!) Finally, the wi-fi was horrible. To have reception I would have to sit right next to the suite door. Otherwise there would not be reception.
Maybe the people giving positive reviews stayed in rooms away from the alley, equipped with A/C, or with good wifi reception. From my experience, however, there is literally no reason to stay in this hotel, because it's not even cheap. I wanted my hotel in Berlin to be a place to be somewhere I could relax and have a good night's sleep after a long day of walking. This place, however, ended up being the exact opposite.
Stay away.
Nice
Gunilla Won 06/07/2017 14:09This was a nice hotel. We lived in an apartment which was spaceous and clean. The environment was fun and different. 20 minutes walk to Alexanderplatz- which is pretty close for Berlin. The breakfast was good, freshly squeezed juice- mmm. There are some cozy neighbourhoods nearby, If you stay away from the big roads.
Very good!
Håvard Ton 26/05/2017 06:14The hotel has got more than design and fancy rooms. The receptionist is so down to earth friendly, informal and helpful that the lasting impression of the experience is that this is a place with a heart. And what are a designhotel anyway? It is really just a hotel that has spent some more money on the interior than the regular business hotels. It is for sure not art, but is not without taste. Our room was decorated in red and had a glamourus, high quality standard. We liked it!
A Real Gem in Prenlauer Berg for those looking for something out of the ordinary
newtojron 17/04/2017 22:37The Adele Designhotel is located in Prenzlauer Berg, one of Berlin's most charismatic residential neighborhoods, filled with cafes, historic buildings with over 80% of all housing in the area constructed before 1948. This borough is the heart of the former East Berlin, home of the counterculture movement led by artists, free-thinkers, and other activists that were an integral force in helping bring down the Berlin Wall. After the fall of the wall this borough has been greatly upgraded and gentrified, but it still provides serene and good vibes of how it must have felt in the olden days. It’s a great place to stay if you want to get away from the crowds at the Brandenburg Gate /Gendarmenmark tourist hub, and get to know the less touristy section of the city. It is interesting to note that English is more commonly spoken and understood in this part of town than any other.
If you want to get the feel of living in Prenzlaer Berg, staying the Adele Designhotel is a good way to start. It is a boutique-type and unique hotel situated in a residential building. The first floor houses the 15 hotel rooms, and the rest of the building is residential. I picked the Adele Designhotel Berlin because of location, type of accommodation, and its un-hotel like ambiance. This is not the hotel for those that want a lot of attention, amenities, or the services provided by large chain hotels. If you are looking for something different and to feel like you’re a resident in a nice residential neighborhood in Berlin, this is the place for you.
I initially stayed in room #5 (see pics) and I loved everything about it. The windows facing the quite Heirich-Roller-Straße, the bathroom with the glass door and modern fixtures, the rustic wood floor. Because my sink backed up, I spent the last night in room #6 (see pics). The bathroom was even nicer with a full glass enclosed shower and separate bathtub. However, the main windows in room #6 face the busier Greifswalder Straße, so in that regard I preferred room #5.
Breakfast is available downstairs in the adjoining restaurant. It was simple and tasty. Besides the usual fare of cold cuts, cereals, and breads, there was a full kitchen available to make eggs and possibly any other request you might have. Ten feet from the restaurant is another breakfast joint that offers tables on the sidewalk and options for Frühstück. There are many different types of restaurants within ten minutes walking distance. At night, the quaint breakfast space magically turns into San Rocco Berlin, a high-end Italian eatery and pizza restaurant. How extraordinarily convenient and delicious – a gastronomical delight!
Internet service was OK - it worked most of the time :)
Comfy, though a little out of the way
Russell Jon 21/09/2016 04:55I stayed here for two nights on a recruiting trip to Berlin. Arriving at 11PM, the hotel looked closed but a sign on the front door indicated I needed to call a number for instructions as to how to gain entry. Once completing this, the process was very easy and the room comfortable.
The reception team were very helpful in the morning and organised my pre check-out as I was leaving in the middle of the night.
