Stepping into the movie

Teresa4280on 09/07/2017 00:27

Much of the property is instantly recognisable from scenes in the movie, yet in reality is located in a very quiet rural area, about 90mins drive from Udaiphur. Even during the extreme heat in June we still managed to find a cool spot to sit and read or simply to rest, the point is a great addition. The staff were all very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Food was excellent and plentiful. Our guided walk through the village was an extra highlight.

Our Visit to the Exotic Marigold Hotel

sweychanon 21/06/2017 14:59

My partner and I booked the hotel for the novelty of staying in a hotel that was featured in the Exotic Marigold Hotel movie. We did go with some nerves about the accomodation, however our fears were totally misplaced. Don't go expecting a five star Indian Hotel. but the service was certainly 5 star nothing was to much trouble. It was interesting,un air-conditioned but it wasn't hot and it had effective fans . The rooms were old but, tidy and clean, the restaurant and the food was more than acceptable and In the afternoon Nitin the manager offered to take us on a tour of the village or drive to a local lake to see an impressive sunset. We chose the village tour and it was one of the highlights of our holiday. We met so many nice people, learnt a lot about village life, toured homes, took a 150 pictures of the villagers which we developed and posted back to the hotel for distribution Not one beggar or a request for money. In the evening we had dinner with Nitin by the pool and it was great

I can strongly recommend a visit to a real Indian country hotel run by nice people. We even met the owner Give it a go and visit.

Very interesting

A wonderful experience - although the hotel is not up to a 5 star standard inside - the hospitality certainly made up for it! The manager was excellent and made us feel very welcome and relaxed. The surrounding village was very interesting and the people so lovely and friendly - I would love to go back again!

Wonderful and Magical

I am a total fan of the film "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" I am currently travelling around India and when I looked up that the hotel was outside Udaipur I did not think I would be able to make it.
Thankfully I contacted the hotel and asked could I come and see the hotel and as it is low season they were more than happy for me to come.
When I arrived they knew who I was and one of the staff members (sadly I can't spell his name) gave me a rally lovely tour of the hotel and explained the areas where the film was made.
The manager is a very friendly man also and the staff spoke to me as I was having tea
The hotel has a peaceful atmosphere as it is in the middle of nowhere which is lovely, no loud traffic noise just peace!
The next time I come back to India I will be staying at the hotel to experience it better
They have added on a swimming pool area which looks lovely and a restaurant
Please if you are in the area stay at least one night here

A wonderful experience in beautiful surroundings

We stayed here for 2 nights. We were the only guests and were made very welcome by Nitin, the manager and his staff. The pool had just been finished and was a welcome surprise as we had very hot days. The food was cooked fresh, lovely and lots of it. Nitin took us for a tour of the adjoining village which was a highlight. We were welcomed into homes by the villagers, shared masala chai, conversation and laughs. We visited the school and the children were pleased to see us and sang for us. We were also taken on a drive to a nearby lake for a short boat trip while the sun was setting. We stopped to join villagers in harvesting the wheat on the way there. The hotel is adjoined by stables with lovely Marwari indian horses, that loved a pat each day. The hotel was recognisable as the one in The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, however much more pleasant looking, still with all the character featured in the film. Rooms were in keeping with the character of the hotel. The whole place is charming and so restful. The remote location was a concern when we booked however this certainly adds to the ambience and this ended up being a highlight. Nitin is certainly an asset as manager and we enjoyed his company during our visit. I would recommend a visit, with or without an interest in the movies, that drew us to it.
