Nice Boutique Hotel in Portsmouth!
AtownMamaon 19/08/2017 00:10Stayed here last weekend for a weekend getaway with my husband and had a really nice stay. The hotel is in a great location and they have done a nice job renovating the rooms. Everything is a mix of old and new and the rooms are super clean and modern. Service was great and if you're a Lark member (which is free) they give you a welcome gift of cookies which I thought was nice.
My only reason for not giving an excellent rating is the breakfast. If you are expecting a traditional B&B experience you will be disappointed. The breakfast is super trendy and ultra healthy. I eat healthy at home but when I am away I want to indulge. They serve mixed greens and salami and cheese plates which I don't think tastes good with coffee. They also have fresh fruit, overnight oats, etc.
Overall a great stay and I would definitely try another one of their hotels!
What a Gem!
Christine Ton 14/08/2017 20:01We booked this boutique hotel for a spur of the moment getaway. We were lucky enough to get a room on short notice. This property is conveniently situated within walking distance to downtown and the waterfront. It's a Victorian style property with beautiful wood detail and cozy sitting rooms at the front of the house for reading or playing parlor games (which are supplied). There's a small bar on the lower level and café tables outside.
Our room was located near the elevator, but we never heard much noise. Each room has a private bath, and our room was spacious, updated, extremely clean, and well appointed with a hair dryer, iron, robes, toiletries, and plenty of space for luggage.
The complimentary breakfast was great...fresh and healthy, not that mass produced stuff from a can. Options included (but not limited to) fresh fruit, yogurt, granola, bagels, egg and spinach salad, juice, and coffee. If you prefer pancakes drenched in sugary syrup or fatty sausages, you'll have to go elsewhere.
I cannot think of one negative thing to say about this property other than our stay was too short (our fault, not theirs). Would definitely recommend and return.
Wonderful wonderful hotel
Winky Hon 09/08/2017 21:52This is our second stay at the hotel portsmouth having also stayed in their sister hotel, the ale house inn, right here in town. Also a great place to stay.
The beds are comfy, complimentary breakfast is about the most interesting and healthy I have seen, tapas style, coffee is strong and good. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Free parking out back. Nice old building with gracious lobby rooms to hang out in and play chess or backgammon. Easy walking distance to the heart of town...what's not to love? This is our second Lark hotel and i will be keeping an eye out for more. They are mostly in New England but there is one in Mendocino.
Perfect for our trip
k9rioton 04/08/2017 00:56We've never stayed at a boutique hotel before (have stayed at B&Bs), and this was a nice intro. The staff was super pleasant and helpful. Coffee (it was great coffee!) and snacks were ever-present. A wide variety of breakfast items were available in the morning, with some type of cake/bread available all day. The lemon/lime/mint water in the kitchen was great too! The location of this hotel is perfect if you want to be close to the action and shopping of Portsmouth, but not directly in it. It's a quick walk to the shops and restaurants.
Our room was very clean and cozy. We stayed in a King room, and it was on the smallish side, but we expected that based on the website description. It didn't matter much because we were only in our room to sleep. My only complaint was that the bathroom area was tiny. The inside of the shower was a great size, but the toilet and shower area overall is a tight squeeze. If you're a regular size or smaller person, you'd be fine. A large person would struggle to use that space. A larger counter space around the sink would have been helpful, but I ended up using a shelf in the room to store all our bathroom essentials.
Overall, we would for sure stay here again. Based on this experience, we also plan to look for other Lark properties when we travel.
Not to be missed
Barbara Ron 02/08/2017 18:07The rooms were spotless and the staff is extraordinary! Lovely breakfast came with the room. "Gracious and welcoming". Within walking distance of historic Portsmouth, Prospect park on the waterfront, Flower gardens everywhere! Dining options galore.
