We Looked, Enjoyed, But No Husky Excursion

We spent some time viewing the beautiful hand-made cabins, each one unique and totally unexpected in the middle of nowhere. Enjoyed hearing about and seeing the very docile huskies and the presentation about dog sledding and arctic survival adventures. We had a little snack prepared for our tour. A good unique experience.
Wonderful Husky Experience

We really enjoyed our stay at Engholm Lodge. The huskies, cabin, food and of course the staff has been really great. We can definitely recommend staying there. For dog lovers a must have experience. We attended the Husky Safari and liked a lot being out in the nature. Luckily we even saw Northern Lights.
Magical wilderness

We stayed at Engholm for two nights in January when the weather was at minus 40. We were worried about driving the two and half hours from the airport to Engholm in these kind of conditions, but Sven assured us it would be ok, and while quite stressful, it was, after all, ok.
In fact communication with Sven was always very good, both before and after booking. The cabins are beautiful and cozy despite these kinds of temperatures. We ate supper there one night in the small but welcoming dining room, and the food was excellent. It was nice to share our experiences with the other people staying there. The other night we cooked for ourselves in the cabins, which are equipped with a two ring electric hob and fridge. There is a nearby supermarket also.
We had five children with us, so it was difficult to be out in these temperatures for long periods. But there is an easy walk down to a frozen river, through the snow laden trees, in the strange half light. It was like another world. We saw the northern lights both nights of our stay, and the second night was a marvellous display above the frozen river. We would just step outside our cabin to check if there was any activity, and if there was, we would put on our warm clothes and head down to the river.
We did not do a dog sled tour as it was booked for the days we were there, but you could tell that these guys were really professional and the plateau where you would go is much more Arctic-like than the dog sled tour we did do in another place (Alta).
We wished we had stayed longer, and were greatly relieved that the beauty of the place more than made up for the freezing temperature and the darkness from 2 pm onwards (which we were dreading, especially with easily bored kids). The extreme conditions even added to the experience.
We would definitely recommend Sven's place, as you can sense the personal investment made by the owner in all things at Engholm.
Simply Brilliant

Each cabin is uniquely furnished with items made on site and sourced from the forests. Egg cups in drilled stone, lamp shades made from skins, antlers or raven feathers, heavy wood tables and chairs suspended from the ceiling, together with innumerable small touches make Sven's cabins each entirely unique to live in.
The heart of the place is the dogs. 55 sled dogs live here and this is a working environment. Clearly the place comes alive in winter but as summer visitors we were lucky enough to visit the dogs on their 'summer holiday' island on the lake. Here they are trained by swimming and you can fish, swim and eat fresh food by the camp fire.
The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful, united in their love of their dogs and the wisdom that comes from working with them and living an outdoor lifestyle.
Most highly recommended.
Wonderful, different and great place to stay

I stayed here for business for two nights. The cabins are truly amazing, special and every detail is hand made! You get the lodge feeling when you enter. The food is home made and absolutely authentic and tastes amazing. The hosts Sven and Crystal do everything to make you feel welcome and appreciated.
I highly recommend to stay at Engholm Husky, your stay will be memorable.
