The rainforest canopy, the floor of which houses the cardamom plantation, provides the serene setting for Mayapott.A stream flows under the bridge that connects the two portions of the house, which is quite an delightful sight during the rains. Built entirely out of chiseled rock from the region, the structure is unique in the fact that little cement is used to bond the building rocks together (no cause for concern since there is strong skeleton that holds up the structure). Each rock was painstakingly templated on to the other and the structure took more than 2 full years to be completed. The wood (mullu venga) that is used around the house is of a special variety and can with stand wet weather for years together.There are more two dozens of unique flowering plants that belong to the ginger family, like the red ginger, ginger rose or porcelain rose. Mayapott is also a natural habitat of variety avian species.

A hidden gem and arguably one of the best plantation resorts/nature retreats in the region.
Recently stayed during our family summer holidays. Great location, clean & well kitted rooms, fantastic surroundings, the designer/architect seem to have done great job in blending the property to the nature and making use of the natural elements to enhance the experience. Very friendly and helpful team who accommodated every request and special dietary needs for kids. Tasty/fresh local delicacies were appreciated.
The kids had a very enjoyable time too exploring the surroundings and the planation. Certainly one for their ‘memory box’.
A place where you can unwind and recharge. We must come back in couple of years.

This is my fourth trip to Mayapottu in as many years.
With friends once and then with family.
Mayapottu is no ordinary place.
The craft of the owner, who is an architect, is palpable in the way the whole residence gets seamlessly integrated with the landscape.
It is wild, tree hugging and solitude personified. You are in the middle of a cardamom plantation where nature is at its best, wild. So welcome the rhythm of the stream that becomes a roaring waterfall during the monsoon (I was fortunate this time to enjoy it), the chirp and shriek of the birds, the wild howl of the animals or the curious onlookers, the monkeys.
I enjoyed good food, decent dwelling and a good sleep during all my visits.
I like it here because I can switch off.
I believe when you are on the edge, its good to be stranded. Let the fate handle the outcome. Let loose. I do not want to know what is happening with Trump, Catalonia, North Korea or Kim Kardashian. I do not want to fight with my son for the remote control. I do not want to fret over poor internet connectivity because I cannot be a narcissist for a couple of days without facebook, twitter or whatever social media.
This is no place if you want a white glove service. You cannot get heated pool, champagne or caviar or sabayon. You can get good food, read a book lying in a hammock, dip in the cold pool or play with your loved ones in the stream. My son, though wary in the beginning enjoyed every bit on one of the visits, even volunteering to go on the hiking trip.
If you want to get away from the madness of the city or if you want to take your kids away from their clinical boundaries of trained trees and topiaries, manicured lawns and borrowed security take then take them to these places.
I never took an initiative to write about this property on tripadvisor after so many visits, but after my last visit I thought it would not be fair if I do not post my opinion.
So in a nutshell if you want to get close to the nature and enjoy the wilderness for a change go to Mayapottu.
If you want creature comfort, I recommend Four Seasons or Ritz carlton reserve as starters.

We booked Mayapott on basis of past reviews. It is extremely costly i.e. 11-12k per night but still we went ahead on basis of paat reviews. We dint knew that management was changed in April 2017 and good reviews on Trip advisor are before April 2017. Writing this review as a moral duty to future travellers so that they do not suffer as we did. We were completely shocked as soon as when we landed at the property. It was just so dirty beyond description. There were ants, mosquities and spider webs. The kitchen area is so hopeless that you cannot even imagine. They were using some dirty towel to wipe utensils. The furniture was too old and bathrooms were damp and extremely uncomfortable. Bathroom were open from one end from where ants were coming in. Wifi service dint work at all. Zero entertainment (no TV) and living room was such as if it had not be cleaned since ages. Breakfast was such a waste. All they offered was one apple and idippyam. Driver was unhappy. He said he was offered nothing better than Dog's food. Treatement to driver also just broke our heart. Also this property is at-least 15-25 kms far from sight seeing which is just waste of your time and travel. Please avoid this property at any cost else you will be extremely dissappointed like us.

Let me first start of by congratulating the architect who conceptualized and designed this place. To build a house around a rock and over a stream while at the same time integrating all these elements into the design truly makes this a fascinating and beautiful place.
The Facilities:
All the rooms and the house itself were extremely clean and neat. The swimming pool too was well maintained and cleaned regularly. Restrooms were neat and had geysers too. Only downside was two of the rooms had restrooms which were partially open to sky and could be an issue for some. In terms of hospitality the guys there were extremely attentive and helpful while at the same time staying out of your way and not being too intrusive.
The Food
This was the highlight of the trip. The quality and taste of the food that was served here took us by surprise. It was authentic Kerala cuisine at its best and exceeded all exceptions. For those who prefer more neutral fare i am sure they will be able to accommodate that too, but they seem to be most comfortable with the native cuisine.
Verdict
A place that could work for both a hang of friends or a family get away. We rented the whole house so we aren't sure abt the experience of just renting individual rooms(couples maybe). But for a gang of 6-10 this place is a perfect getaway for a weekend away from the city with good food , beautiful location and great weather.

If you want to enjoy a different experience in stay as well as a very tasty Kerala cuisine
you should try this Hotel.. This is an absolute example of Plantation Villa property
In Kerala..The rooms are very spacious and designed as nature friendly..
