Fish smelt like fish

I was transiting via Chennai in the middle of the night and needed to get some food (because Chennai airport is hopeless). That's how and why I ended up at Taj Club House at 4am. There was only one single guest in the whole ground floor of the hotel - me. It was a bit spooky. How old is this place anyway? I wanted to go local so I ordered a Madras Fish Curry and all they had to do was get that right. But for a one guest restaurant with one waiter, the fish was expectedly not the freshest. I'm not sure what the story of the hotel is, but I think I need to return during the day to see if it's going to be a different scene.

My stay at the Taj clubhouse has been nothing short of a joy, the staff is attentive to simple needs such as exhaustion of a shampoo bottle and replenishing the bathroom with 2 fresh sets the next day.
This is the level of detail that I enjoy and I can't believe that housekeeping caught that I can't praise them enough on this. In parallel, looking into the dining rooms, the food especially breakfast is well prepared - though there aren't a lot to offer on the buffet spread, what is off the menu makes up for it well.
One of the highlights is sinking my teeth into the Onion Rava on the first breakfast I had at the Taj Clubhouse and the rest is history.
Overall an extremely enjoyable stay, staff are attentive and cheery, really happy to help. Rooms are clean and comfortable. I'd highly recommend the Taj Clubhouse to anybody wishing to visit Chennai.

Stayed here on a 3 nights business trip.
What I liked: Breakfast was very good every morning. Impeccable service by staff in all restaurants including Blend (rocking on a Friday night). Room size was ok. Housekeeping was good everyday.
What I didn't like: My shower area had a strange smell all the time. It was like someone has put a lot of hair removing cream or bleach down the drain. The smell just never went. I was hardly in the room so not much of an issue but for others it might be.
What could be better: Service at Kefi (roof top restaurant) could be improved. Maybe it was the rains, maybe they were just lazy.. They didn't want to set up a dinner table outside even when it was not raining. One doesn't get to enjoy lovely pleasant weather in Chennai that often.
Value for money: I am not sure if I can say yes.
Will I come again: If I have work in this part of town and for Blend (their bar) then Yes.
Money's worth

The customer care is too good... The buffet breakfast was just brilliant with the variety of dishes on offer... From South Indian dishes that were delicious with a twist in the preparation and some excellent chutneys to with them... I stuffed my face with this and my daughter ate to her hearts content on waffles, pancakes, doughnuts and what not... Of course there is food for those who don't know how to enjoy it 😬... The rooms are well maintained and the linen and bath towels crisp and clean.. The toilettories provided are adequate for two.. Again excellent quality... Check-in and Check-out are a breeze. The Indian cuisine restaurant served tasty North Indian cuisine.. Was a delicious.
