    What People are saying

    Vintage Property !

    travelromeo on 21/11/2017 06:38

We went for a 3 night vacation and the first impressions of the property are lovely - its a definite vintage, period property and Taj has done well by trying to retain as much of the charm. And it definitely charms.

However, I think that is all that can be said about the property. Being a vintage property comes with its downfalls. The furnishings, fittings are also of the same age - so that may not go well with too many people. The rooms in the upper brackets are HUGE but in the basic category are tiny. The food was below par and avoidable.

Service ofcourse, being a Taj hotel was great and nothing to complain about. The spa at the property was outsourced and also not great!

Enjoy the charms of living in a classic property would be the takeaway.

    Excellent stay

We stayed at Taj Gateway hotel Coonoor for a couple of days in nearly November and we were truly amazed by the warm hospitality and care that was shown to us throughout our stay The general manager Mr Muralitharan and his deputy Mr John Peter along with their entire team where all so ever helpful Mr Muralitharan was so gracious that he guided as to what all places we must visit in Ooty and Coonoor and really made our stay most memorable . we also felt good by the attitude shown by Mr John Peter who also guided us to a number of places the entire staff including the very special Chef Mr Ramalingam who seems to know so much is always ready with recipes and very many health tips. there were heavy rains for couple of days and even then the housekeeping staff were so nice that they could organise bonfire and really took care of us in every possible manner we can remember names of people like Peter of housekeeping Mr Vijay Mr Kannan and people from in room dining while we used to visit the table again we had a host of people who looked after us so very well including Mr lingam and team. The restaurant manager Bala Murugan and his colleagues like ramesh where indeed very special they went out of their way to take care of us . due to the helpful reference from the affable general manager Shri Muralidharan we could visit hotel savoy the 18th century beauty and we will remember each day we stayed at Taj Coonoor Gateway hats off to each and everyone . Loganathan Kannan sathish....we might not have remembered all the names but it was a treat to stay at this prestigious property thank you so very much God bless

    Lovely hotel

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. We had such a nice time. We were actually there on Diwali and it was our first Diwali celebration. The hotel made it a memorable time with some lights and a great magic show organised the same night. The restaurant food was excellent. The idlis and sambar were some of the best we tasted. The staff was excellent, but Lingom in particular made us feel like family in the restaurant. Not only he suggested the best food to meet our needs, but he shared part of the culture and taught us enough Tamil to impress my Tamil friends in Kotagiri. Thanks to all for the lovely stay and special thanks to Lingom again... we will come back

We came with a small group on a Trip extension.

We came as a group of five as an extension of. Southern India trip. This hotel is right in the history of the British in India.
It was an English owned mansion, then hotel and has been restored. It has all the hallmarks of an Officers Mess or Gentlemans Club. It seemed a bit bare and I think it could do with a few furnishing touches. In its heyday there would have been cushions and ornaments which if carefully chosen would make it a bit more inviting.
We had a ‘bungalow’, a white painted single storey apartment with sitting room with fireplace, bedroom, wardrobe space and bathroom.
It had high ceilings and a fan. It was cool in the evenings and night in November, there was a heater provided and we discovered hot water bottles had been placed in our bed, very welcome.
The gardens are attractive and well maintained with mountain views. In the evening you can sit round a fire in the garden, which is very atmospheric.
Breakfasts and dinners were very good, cooked to order and tasty.
It is ideal for getting the train to Ooty, and don’t miss the colourful market full of friendly people.
