Really relaxing stay. Rooms a good size, clean (bed probably a bit firm for most though). Nice pool with plenty of sunloungers, beach had plenty more sun loungers, but the real highlight was the house reef which was reached via a pontoon and steps. Loads of fish and the coral was mostly alive (the red "no swim" flag was always flying though, even when it wasn't windy and there were no waves).
We went all inclusive and the food was pretty standard for AI, i.e. fine, but a bit samey after a few days. The drinks weren't "premium", the Luxor lager was cold and fizzy, the red wine was ok (the white tasted more like vermouth though) and the spirits were Egyptian versions of well known brands which I suspect were 40% proof rather than 40% alc/vol (including Finlandia- "The vodka of Egypt"...). The soft drinks were branded though, 7up, Miranda (sweeter orange Fanta) and Pepsi/diet Pepsi).
The Tropitel was easily walkable to the Blue Hole, which was worth going to (I just snorkeled) and the hotel put on free shuttle bus to Dahab several times a day. So it was easy to go and get an evening meal if you fancy a change (we did a couple of nights) and you could eat a full kebab meal and soft drinks (King Chicken) for less than a fiver each, the big mixed kebab was enough for two and at EGY£100 (£4.30) was really good value - Other restaurants overlooking the sea would have been more expensive, but I'm sure you could easily eat at <£10 each. Alternatively, a falafal meal would have been a couple of quid each.
We were the only Brits there, (flew via Cairo and then onto Sharm, still no direct flights), which probably worked out ~ £100/return more than a direct flight would have done (and we needed to get a visa for £20 each at Cairo airport). So it really wasn't difficult to get there (hoppa transfer was ~ £45 return, which we might have been able to get cheaper when we got and haggled there, but maybe not) and it was perfectly safe (a few army checkpoints along the road, plus at least one at Dahab itself). So if anyone is worried about the security situation, don't be.
The hotel was less than a quarter full I would say, which was a shame - I'm sure it had seen better, busier days (there was a "Roman Amphitheatre" stage area which I'm sure would have had evening entertainment on when the hotel was busier, the lobby bar was only open from ~8.30 pm until midnight etc.).
So if you want a cheap, relaxing holiday, with a great house reef then visit the Tropitel!
If you want a busy resort with nightclubs, Maccy D's, free wifi, loads of UK tv channels, evening entertainment, a kids club etc then it isn't for you.
I'd certainly go again, but next time would eat more in Dahab, probably organise a trip or two, might learn to kite surf (just up from the hotel at "The Canyon", maybe 500m away). This time I just wanted to snorkel and get some sun, which the Tropitel was perfect for.

An average resort. Everything is average - food, room, services.... Seems popular with locals and tourist alike. Not far from the Blue Hole and pier to go to Ras Abu Ghaloum. Recommendable for those in Dahab. Make sure you have your own transport though.
Very nice
